Polish League finals, Game 5: May 20, 2009
Asseco Prokom Sopot is the Polish League champion for the sixth straight season! Prokom turned away rival PGE Turow Zgorzelec 96-74 in Game 5 to take the best-of-seven Polish League finals 4-1. Qyntel Woods shined with 28 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists to lead the perennial champs. Prokom, which lost Game 2 at home and worked hard to win Games 2 and 4 on the road, showed it was happy to be back in Sopot by pulling away with a 32-13 second quarter to erase a slow start take an 11-point halftime lead. The advantage slowly increased throughout the second half and eventually crossed the 20-point barrier as Prokom was able to start celebrating long before the final buzzer. David Logan added 17 points, making 3 of 6 three-pointers to lead Prokom's perimeter attack that was 9 for 18 from downtown. Turow made just 6 of 28 triples (21.4%). Dan Ewing scored 14 and Tyrone Brazelton 11 for the champs. Tyus Edney and Damir Miljkovic paced Turow with 18 points apiece and Chris Daniels accounted for 9 points and 12 rebounds in defeat. MORE |

| The Polish League is set to start with everyone wondering if Asseco Prokom will keep dominating the competition as it did in the last five years. Prokom needed to steal Game 7 on the road against Turow to win its fifth consecutive Polish League crown and starts again as the top candidate to win it all yet again this season. Prokom comes back with newcomer David Logan and Daniel Ewing as its main scoring references. Koko Archibong, Filip Dylewicz and Ronnie Burrell round Prokom's roster. Turow, that reached the league finals in the last two seasons, kept coach Saso Filipovski but had to rebuild its team almost from scratch. Still, the arrival of Donald Copeland, Darian Townes, Alex Harris or Bryan Bailey will keep Turow fighting to win its first-ever Polish League title. Energa Czarni Slupsk may well become the surprise team in the competition, led by Rolando Howell, Jack Ingram and Demetric Bennett. As usual, Anwil Wloclawek, featuring Andrzej Pluta, Gerrod Henderson or Paul Miller, and Asco Slask Wroclaw, led by head coach Rimas Kurtinaitis, will be top contenders to challenge Prokom for the title. |
