Miki Berkowitz (1971-95)
Maccabi Tel Aviv (ISR), Maccabi Rishon Le Zion (ISR), Hapoel Jerusalem (ISR), Hapoel Tel Aviv (ISR)
He showed Europe that Israeli basketball was all about success and built a legend for himself in no less successful a club than Maccabi Elite Tel Aviv. Miki Berkowitz led Maccabi to the 1977 Euroleague title, scoring 17 points to down mighty Mobilgirgi Varese 78-77 in the final. He tallied 20 points and made the game-deciding lay-up in the 1981 Euroleague final, in which Maccabi beat Virtus Bologna 80-79. A great all-around scorer and a natural-born leader, Berkowitz later reached Euroleague finals with Maccabi in 1987 and 1988. Most of all, he helped an entire country fall in love with basketball forever.
WHAT THEY SAY...
"First of all I am very proud for my country and my club to be part of the 50 legends. When I was young I had big dreams about playing for Maccabi and winning the championship. This is like the profit to the investment you havedone. It is a nice thing from the Euroleague to give positive things for the big players of European basketball history."
