Walter Szczerbiak (1967-1984)
Teams:
George Washington University (USA), Pittsburgh Condors (USA), Wilkes-Barre Barons (USA), Real Madrid (ESP), Udine (ITA), Canarias (ESP)
VIDEO
Summary:
A phenomenal scorer with all-around offensive skills, Walter Szczerbiak was Real Madrid's top gun in the 1970s. Ambitious, with unlimited range and never afraid of taking big shots, Szczerbiak joined Real Madrid in 1973 and immediately helped the club to the Euroleague title in 1974 against Varese. Szczerbiak would score 26 points in the 1978 Euroleague final against Varese and hit for 16 in the 1980 title game against Maccabi Tel Aviv to lift two more top continental trophies. Szczerbiak, a superstar and a gentleman off the court, also won four Spanish league titles with Madrid.
WHAT THEY SAY...
Walter Szczerbiak:
"This is like a dream come true. I often thought in the United States that it would nice to have something in Europe that would be like a Hall of Fame ceremony, something that we could do and seethe players I played with, the coaches I played against and to have a celebration. When I was informed that I was named on this team and that we were going to have this celebration during the Final Four, it really, really made me very excited. I am really happy to be here and honoured to be in this team with all the great players, coaches and referees. I am really going to have a good time."
