EUROLEAGUE ALL-DECADE CANDIDATE: Alphonso Ford
The pre-eminent scorer of the decade’s early seasons, Alphonso Ford was on his way to re-writing the Euroleague’s scoring records before leukemia ended his life at age 32. Ford scored in double figures in all 54 games in which he played and was named either first- or second-team All-Euroleague in all three of his seasons in the competition. In terms of scoring average, Ford stands alone with 22.2 points per game – nearly 3 points more than then next-best per-game scorer all decade. His scoring bore plenty of team success, too, as Ford led Montepaschi Siena to the 2003 Final Four in the club's first season in the Euroleague. His memory is honored each year when the season’s leading Euroleague point-getter is awarded the Alphoso Ford Top Scorer Trophy.
