EUROLEAGUE ALL-DECADE CANDIDATE: Michalis Kakiouzis
Few forwards have combined the high basketball IQ and versatility that Michalis Kakiouzis showed throughout the decade. Kakiouzis helped AEK to reach the 2001 Euroleague semifinals, earning fans around the continent due to his fighting spirit and clutch performances. He soon joined Montepaschi Siena, a newcomer to the Euroleague, but not for long. With Kakiouzis as a key contributor, the team made the Final Four in 2003, its very first Euroleague season, and again the next year. Kakiouzis would return to European club basketball's signature event soon enough, and with another club, reaching the 2006 Final Four as a member of FC Barcelona. Along the way, Kakiouzis played with unique craftiness inside while his big shots from long distance kept opponents honest. Bottom line: Kakiouzis found as many ways as possible to win.
