The 2011-12 Turkish Airlines Euroleague Top 16 enters a truly pivotal week in which as many as seven teams can access the playoffs. Only one of them - CSKA Moscow - fully depends on its own game to clinch a playoff spot. Three pairs of teams in Groups F, G and H can advance to the next round if - and only if - both squads win their respective games. Action starts with four games on Wednesday. Top 16, Week 4’s first contest takes place at the home of the 2012 Turkish Airlines Euroleague Final Four, Sinan Erdem Arena, where Anadolu Efes (1-2) hosts Olympiacos (1-2) at 19:30 CET. With both teams tied in the standings, the winner will greatly improve its playoffs chances. Even if Efes wins, look for the hosts to target the 18-point margin Olympiacos won by in their last meeting. Group F takes center stage next with Montepaschi Siena (3-0) vs. Unicaja (0-3) in Italy at 20:00. The visitors will be out for revenge after Siena romped to a 23-point win in Malaga last week. Thirty minutes later Gescrap BB (1-2) vs. Real Madrid (2-1) tips off. The Men in Black come off a big win over Los Blancos this past weekend in the Spanish League, but Madrid coasted to victory last week in their first Top 16 clash. If both Siena and Madrid are victorious, both will secure playoffs berths. But if even just one of them loses, Group F must wait another week to send a team to the playoffs. Wednesday’s nightcap takes place in the fashion capital, where EA7 Emporio Armani (0-3) meets Unics at 20:45. Unics held Milan to a modern era club low 44 points last week and now Armani, which will debut guard JR Bremer, will seek out its first Top 16 victory, while knowing that a loss could end its playoffs hopes. The first of Thursday’s games comes from Group H with Zalgiris Kaunas(0-3) vs. FC Barcelona Regal (3-0) at 18:45 CET. The Lithuanian champs challenged last week in Barcelona before the hosts pulled away late. A loss could end Zalgiris’s playoff chances. The only undefeated team in the competition is also the only team that controls its destiny this week. CSKA Moscow (3-0) travels to GS Medical Park (1-2) knowing that a win puts it through to the playoffs, though the Russian champs will need to wait at least another week to mathematically clinch first place in Group E. The fans at Nokia Arena in Tel Aviv will be ready for a must-win clash for their beloved team when Maccabi Electra (1-2) hosts Bennet Cantu (2-1) at 20:05. After Cantu won by 8 last week, Maccabi will be targeting not only a victory, but also to eclipse the margin it lost by in order to gain the potential tiebreaker between the teams. Top 16, Week 4 ends with the Game of the Week in which defending champion Panathinaikos (2-1) faces Fenerbahce Ulker (1-2) at 20:45. The Greens will come into the game knowing the result of Wednesday’s other Group G game, which will dictate whether a playoff ticket will be on the line already in this game. Every game features major playoff implications, so don’t miss what could be one of the most exciting weeks of the season!
