THE CITY
|
Rome, the eternal city, is the Italian capital and one of Europe's great sporting cities. Aside from boasting Euroleague side Lottomatica Roma and two world-class football teams in AS Roma and Lazio, it hosted the 1960 Olympic Games and is a candidate city for the 2016 games. Sports is inbred in the city's rich history, starting with the Colosseum, the largest amphitheater built in the Roman Empire. It is also one of ancient Rome's must-see sites, like the Pantheon, Roman Forum, Piazza Navona, Fontana di Trevi, as well as San Paolo fuori le Mura, Santa Maria Maggiore and Santa Maria del Popolo churches. Vatican City is located in Rome, where visitors can find the largest church in the world, St. Peter's Basilica and Michelangelo's work on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel.
