Both ASK Riga and Ventspils opened theit Latvian League season with respective wins and stay unbeaten so far. ASK Riga had to battle hard to down archrivals Barons/LMT 99-100 in overtime on October 5. Sandis Buskevics led the winners with 22 points, Curtis Millage added 14 while Raitis Grafs, Dwayne Broyles, Arnis Vecvagars and AJ Bramlett each had 11 for ASK. Armands Skele had 23 points for Barons, that rallied from an 11-point deficit in the fourth quarter to force overtime, 86-86. Buskevics and an outstanding Millage stepped up in the extra period to make ASK escape with a tough win. Ventspils had less troubles to thrash Valmiera 95-61 at home on Friday. Aigars Vitols led the winners with 22 points, Jimmy Baxter and Martin Skirmants each added 13 while Pavels Veselovs got 12 for Ventspils, that led 33-11 after 10 minutes and never looked back. In other games, VEF Riga edged Liepaja 78-80 and then thrashed Keizarmezs 103-53 to lead the standings at 2-0. Barons downed Keizamerzs 63-87 and beat Bumerangs 106-73 to improve to 2-1. Liepaja bested Bumerangs 57-76.
