CSU Asesoft Poliesti had to battle harder than expected to edge CSU Sibiu 70-74 on the road on Saturday to improve to 6-0 in the Romanian League standings right before its ULEB Cup debut. Bojan Obradovic and Arvydas Cepulis paced the winners each with 18 points. Tomas Gaidamavicius added 14 while Rashard Griffith grabbed 10 rebounds for Ploiesti, that led 34-36 at halftime and boosted its margin to 54-60 after 30 minutes. Obradovic stepped up with a key three-pointer that sealed the outcome down the stretch. In other games, BC Mures edged CSU Brasov 85-90, Rapid Neoset overwhelmed BC Arges Pitesti 89-50, Gaz Metan Medias topped Gresiloft Targoviste 68-71, Cluj-Napoca beat Ramnicu-Valcea 62-78 while CS Otopeni thrashed CSM Leonardo Oradea 98-55. The game between Dinamo Gealan and Elba Timisoara was postponed.
