Regular Season, Week 4 review
A scoring record and three perfect teams
Arturas Jomantas - Lietuvos celebrates With more than a quarter of the regular season having gone by after Week 4's results, only three teams remain undefeated and two of those can't even claim exclusive hold of first place in their groups. The only team that can say that after four weeks is Lietuvos Rytas, who won its showdown with Aris TT Bank 77-70 on Wednesday to stand alone atop Group B. The other two undefeated teams, Panathinaikos and Real Madrid, share the top spot in Group C. Panathinaikos held off AXA F.C. Barcelona by 76-66 at home on Thursday, with Dmitrios Diamantidis again all over the floor for the reigning champs. Madrid welcomed back guard Louis Bullock, whose late-game fireworks helped defeat Partizan 75-64. Group A also features a tie at the top, where CSKA Moscow and Tau Ceramica are 2-1, both having knocked of teams they tied with. CSKA won at home against Olympiacos, just as Tau did against Montepaschi. In the same group, a first victory came the way of Prokom Trefl Sopot thanks to Tomas Van den Spiegel's monster performance on the road at Virtus VidiVici Bologna. Another first-time winner was Group C's Lottomatica Roma, which romped 81-57 over Brose Baskets in the team's first home game all season. Additional home winners gaining access to the middle of the table were Zalgiris in Group A, Efes, Unicaja and Cibona in Group B, while Fenerbahce of Group C had the week's only other road win besides that of Prokom. All those teams have 2-2 records. The week was punctuated by a new record, too, as Marcus Brown returned to the top of the Euroleague's all-time scoring list, with 2,063 points, thanks to 28 he scored as Zalgiris beat Union Olimpija.
