Regular Season, Week 8 review

All races tight after second-leg openers
The undefeated streak of the defending champions ended with the first game of the regular season's second leg as Lottomatica Roma shocked visiting Panathinaikos 85-67 in Group C on Thursday. Lottomatica did it with defense and enjoyed 18 points from sharp-shooting Allan Ray. That result left no undefeated teams in the entire Euroleague, and immediately changed Group C's look as both AXA F.C. Barcelona and Real Madrid won at home to climb within a victory of Panathinaikos. Barcelona bulled over Partizan Igokea 95-69 as Roger Grimau scored 19 points, while Madrid undid Fenerbahce Ulker 87-77. The losers of those games now find Chorale Roanne and Roma challenging for fourth and fifth place. Roanne won 84-81 over visiting Brose Baskets Bamberg as top scorer Marc Salyers pumped in 28 points. Group A has a showdown in store after first-place CSKA Moscow won by an easy 99-67 against visiting Prokom Trefl Sopot, while second-place Montepaschi rallied behind Terrell McIntyre's heroics again to win 80-86 at Union Olimpija. CSKA visits Siena in Week 9. Also in Group A, Tau Ceramica downed Olympiacos 75-64 to break their third-place tie as Mirza Teletovic erupted for 19 points. Olympiacos finds itself tied for fourth now with Zalgiris, which celebrated a 50 Year tribute to its legends by blowing out Virtus VidiVici Bologna 102-82 as all-time top scorer Marcus Brown erupted for 31 points, including 7 three-pointers. Group B changed little as all three tri-leaders won, as did the closest team to them. Unicaja manhandled visiting Aris TT Bank with defense, winning 73-52 as Marcus Haislip posted 18 points. Lietuvos Rytas shook off visiting Armani Jeans Milano by 75-62 as Marijonas Petravicius put in 17 points. And Maccabi Tel Aviv took its fourth consecutive victory, 90-99 at Le Mans, with David Bluthenthal scoring 20. All three will feel the breath on their necks of Efes Pilsen, which blasted visiting Cibona 100-74 as Drew Nicholas had 20 points… MORE
