Italian League, Regular Season, Game 16: December 27, 2007
Romain Sato - Montepaschi Siena Montepaschi Siena cruised to another easy win in the Italian League, while its closest competitors both lost, giving the defending champion a six-victory lead atop the table. Montepaschi crushed Tisettanta Cantu 109-72 to remain undefeated as Romain Sato poured in 25 points. Meanwhile Lottomatica Roma and Angelico Biella both lost, opening the door for a six-ay tie for second place at 10-6. Scavolini Spar Pesaro outlasted Lottomatica 88-85 behind Carlton Myers’s 21 points and Benetton Treviso’s defense was cooking as it blasted Angelico Biella 88-58. Reece Gaines led the way with 21 points and 6 assists. Air Avellino used an outstanding team effort with six scorers in double figures to defeat Armani Jeans Milano 72-86. Alex Righetti and Daniele Cavaliero shot a combined 9 for 12 from downtown to lead Avellino. Alan Anderson heated up for 29 points to lead La Fortezza Bologna to an 85-79 win over Legea Scafati. Horace Jenkins converted a pair of free throws in the final seconds to lift Upim Bologna to a 63-64 win at Solsonica Rieti. In other games, Jumaine Jones scored 23 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead Eldo Napoli over Snaidero Udine 77-72, Pierrel Capo d'Orlando needed overtime to top Cimberio Varese 102-105 behind Drake Diener’s 28 points and Gianmarco Pozzecco’s 15 points and 11 assists and Premiata Montegranaro downed Siviglia Wear Teramo 106-92 as Valerio Ameroso and Kiwane Garris combined for 44 points.

Defending champion Montepaschi Siena cruised to a 109-72 home win over Tisettanta Cantu to improve to 16-0. The hosts were in control from the very start, taking a 30-15 lead after 10 minutes, improving to 58-32 by halftime and continuing to run the rest of the way. Romain Sato poured in 25 points, Ben Eze and Bootsy Thornton added 17 points apiece, Tomas Ress came off the bench for 13, Marco Carraretto scored 12 and Terrell McIntyre dished 12 assists. Denham Brown paced Cantu with 18 points. Alan Anderson heated up for 29 points to lead La Fortezza Bologna to an 85-79 win over Legea Scafati. The game was a close encounter, which was tied at 61-61 at the end of the third quarter. A Frank Williams triple gave Scafati a 73-74 lead and it was tied on Marco Killingsworth free throws with two minutes left, but Bologna scored the game’s last 6 points and Williams as Killingsworth came up empty at the other end. In addition to his point tally, Anderson drew 11 fouls, made 15 of 17 free throws and grabbed 9 rebounds for the winners. Dewarick Spencer added 14 points, Guilherme Giovannoni 12 and Travis Best 10. Killingsworth and Dmitri Lauwers scored 18 each for Scafati.

Scavolini Spar Pesaro outlasted Lottomatica Roma 88-85 to crash the party in second place. The game was tight for 25 minutes, but Scavolini finished the third quarter with three straight baskets to take a 66-55 lead, which held up till the end. A Rasheed Brokenborough triple saw the lead peak at 14 and despite Allan Ray and Jon Stefansson’s best efforts, Roma wasn’t able to do more in the closing minutes than make it a respectable scoreline. Carlton Myers paced Pesaro with 21 points and Ronald Slay and Pervis Pasco added 11 each. Erazem Lorbek led Roma with 21, Jacopo Giachetti, Ray and Stefansson scored 13 apiece and Roberto Gabini had 10. Air Avellino used an outstanding team effort with six scorers in double figures to defeat Armani Jeans Milano 72-86. The advantage grew to 20 just before halftime and the visitors remained in control the rest of the way. Righetti finished with 20 and Cavaliero had 15 for the winners. Danilo Gallinari led Milano with 22 points and Dusan Vukcevic added 13.

Benetton Treviso’s defense was cooking as it blasted Angelico Biella 88-58. Benetton held its opponent to just 10 first-quarter points and only 15 more in the second period en route to a 37-25 halftime lead. The hosts wrapped it up in the fourth quarter by outscoring Biella 28-13. Reece Gaines led the way with 21 points and 6 assists, Lionel Chalmers netted 20 points, Matteo Soragna and Angelo Gigli had 13 each nd Mario Austin finished with 10 points and 13 rebounds for Treviso. Troy Bell and Kevinn Pinkney scored 14 each for Biella. Horace Jenkins converted a pair of free throws in the final seconds to lift Upim Bologna to a 63-64 win at Solsonica Rieti. Jenkins had an awful shooting night, going 0 for 6 on two-pointers and 0 for 6 from downtown, but came up big when he was needed the most. Oscar Torres led Upim with 17 points and Stefano Mancinelli contributed 10 for the winners. Morris Finley scored 17 and LeRoy Hurd had 14 for Rieti.
