French League, Game 13: January 4-6, 2008

Adecco Asvel and Sluc Nancy now tied atop the French League standings, each with a 10-3 record. Asvel is back ahead the standings by edging Sluc Nancy 79-76 in Lyon on Friday. Lamayn Wilson led the winners with 21 points. Robert Conley added 19, 6 rebounds and 6 assists while Uche Nsonwu grabbed 12 rebounds for Asvel. Ricardo Greer led Nancy with 23 points and 8 rebounds. Chorale Roanne improved to 8-5 by topping Clermont 73-68 at home on Saturday behind 15 points from Marc Salyers. Meanwhile, Pau-Orthez moved up to 4-9 by thrashing Dion 99-69 at home. Antonio Graves led the winners with 27 points while Antywane Robinson added 22 for Pau. Strasbourg improved to 7-6 by edging Orleans 69-74 on the road on Saturday behind 23 points from Afik Nissim while Le Mans and Chalon registered respective losses, 71-75 against Paris and 81-73 against Le Havre. In other games, Hyeres-Toulon topped Gravelines 73-83 while Vichy edged Cholet 51-58.

Conley added 19, 6 rebounds and 6 assists while Nsonwu grabbed 12 rebounds for Asvel. Greer led Nancy with 23 points and 8 rebounds. Cyril Julian added 14 points, Jeff Greer had 13 while Michael Bauer got 12 for the guests, who led 36-37 at halftime. An outstanding Bauer and a three-pointer by Jeff Greer gave Nancy a 58-67 margin midway through the fourth quarter. Asvel quickly found a go-to guy in an unstoppable Conley, while a triple bY Aymeric Jeanneau gave the hosts a 73-71 edge. Conley followed a layup with a three-pointer to seal the outcome in the final 2 minutes. Chorale Roanne improved to 8-5 by topping Clermont 73-68 at home on Saturday. Salyers led the winners with 15 points while Ron Hale and Adam Hess each added 14 for Roanne, that led 40-30 at halftime and only allowed 8 points in the third quarter to break the game open, 57-38, after 30 minutes. Pau-Orthez improved to 4-9 by thrashing Dion 99-69 at home. Graves led the winners with 27 points, Robinson added 22, Jeff Trepagnier had 16 while Antoine Mendy got 10 in an easy home win for Pau, that led 54-31 at halftime and never looked back.
Strasbourg improved to 7-6 by edging Orleans 69-74 on the road on Saturday. Afik Nissim paced the winners with 23 points while Derrick Obasohan, Eddie Shannon and Rob Lewin each added 12 for Strasbourg, that trailed 19-11 after 10 minutes. Nissim and Obasohan allowed Strasbourg to get back in the game and find a double-digit margin, 25-35, early in the third quarter. Orleans regained the lead later on but got within 62-66 with 2 minutes to go. Shannon sank a jumper and soon added clutch free throws to seal the outcome in the final seconds. Chalon dropped to 4-9 due to a 81-73 road loss against Le Havre. John Cox led Le Havre with 23 points. John Ford had 17 points for Chalon, Bryan Bracey 15 and Darrel Mitchell 11 for the guests, that trailed all the way since the opening basket. Le Mans dropped to 8-5 due to a 71-75 road loss against Paris Levallois. Je'Kel Foster led Paris with 21 points. Phil Ricci had 22 points for Le Mans while Nicolas Batum added 16. It all came down to the final 2 minutes of a very balanced game, as Foster hit a critical triple for a 66-71 Paris edge and soon added 4-for-4 free throws to seal the outcome.
