Six teams make sure of Top 16 berths
|
Week 11 proved to be a wave that, if ridden correctly, carried teams all the way to the Top 16. A total of six teams surfed their way into the next round this week, five of them with victories in Week 11. The new qualifiers came from all three groups and joined five previous onces to fill more than two-thirds of the places in the next round. Group A dominated the fun as four teams now tied for second place advanced together: Olympiacos won 71-67 over group leader CSKA as Milos Teodosic and Giannis Bourousis combined for 38 points; Zalgiris topped host Union Olimpija 74-83 as Marcus Brown scored all of his 22 points in the final 12 minutes; Montepaschi downed Tau Ceramica 83-71 behind Terrell McIntyre's McIntyre had 20 points, 7 assists and 7 steals, but even the losers of that game rode the wave when Zalgiris helped them qualify, too. In Group B, there was just one new qualifier, Maccabi Tel Aviv, whose 87-68 decision over Unicaja forged a tie between them for second place. And the final qualifier came from Group C, where Real Madrid got a 72-80 road win at Partizan with Felipe Reyes leading the way. Among other key results, Panathinaikos edged Barcelona 55-56 to stay first in Group C, whileEfes Pilsen beat Le Mans 84-91 in OT to move to the brink of qualification in Group B, whose exclusive leader now is Lietuvos Rytas, which rallied to defeat Aris TT Bank 69-72 on the road...
