David Hawkins - Lottomatica Roma It was a strange weekend in the Italian League, as three Euroleague teams - La Fortezza Bologna, Montepaschi Siena and Lottomatica Roma - registered respective overtime losses while another game, Legea Scafati - Upim Bologna, was postponed due to Fortitudo's ULEB Cup replay game against Telindus Oostende. Premiata Montegranaro made the most out of it, as it now ties the second spot in the standings by edging Montepaschi Siena 89-84 in overtime on Sunday. Sharrod Ford paced Montegranaro with 26 points and 14 rebounds. Romain Sato had 19 points and 14 rebounds for Montepaschi, including free throws to force overtime. Lottomatica Roma dropped to 13-7 due to a 95-89 overtime road loss against Eldo Napoli. Jamel Thomas paced Napoli with 20 points. David Hawkins had 29 points for Lottomatica. Meanwhile, La Fortezza Bologna also went down to 8-12 because of a 78-82 overtime home loss against Air Avellino. Armani Jeans Milano and Benetton Treviso registered respective road losses, 76-66 against Cimberio Varese and 92-74 against Siviglia Wear Teramo. In other games, Solsonica Rieti topped Angelico Biella 75-81, Snaidero Udine edged Scavolini Spar Pesaro 84-92 while Tisettanta Cantù thrashed Pierrel Capo d'Orlando 105-89 behind 39 points on 13-for-13 shooting, 6 rebounds, 6 assists and 6 steals from DaShaun Wood.

Premiata Montegranaro provided the biggest surprise in the Italian League this week by edging Montepaschi Siena 89-84 in overtime on Sunday. Montegranaro improved to 13-7 and ties for the second spot in the standings while Montepaschi dropped to 18-2 and lost consecutive Italian regular season games for the first time since March 25, 2006. Ford paced Montegranaro with 26 points and 14 rebounds. Sato had 19 points and 14 rebounds for Montepaschi. Terrell McIntyre added 16 points, Ben Eze had 14, Vlado Ilievski 12 and Ksistof Lavrinovic 11 for the guests. It call came down to the final minute in regulation, as free throws by McIntyre and Sato sent the game to overtime, 69-69. Montepaschi got a 69-73 edge early in extra period, but an 11-2 run allowed Montegranaro to seal the outcome. Lottomatica Roma dropped to 13-7 due to a 95-89 overtime road loss against Eldo Napoli. Thomas paced Napoli with 20 points. Hawkins had 29 points for Lottomatica, Erazem Lorbek and Rodrigo De La Fuente each added 21 while Roko Ukic got 12 for the guests, who led 74-81 midway through the fourth quarter. An 11-1 run gave Napoli a 85-82 edge but Hawkins' layup-plus-foul sent the game to overtime, 85-85. Lottomatica was limited to just 4 points in the extra period, enough for Napoli to add a big home win.

Benetton Treviso dropped to 8-12 due to a 76-66 road loss against Cimberio Varese. Jaime Lloreda paced the winners with 31 points and 10 rebounds. Lionel Chalmers had 20 points for Benetton, Mario Austin added 13 and Matteo Soragna 12. Benetton rallied from a 13-point halftime deficit to get within 58-56 midway through the fourth quarter, but Lloreda and Melvin Marcus led Varese to a well-deserved win. La Fortezza Bologna also went down to 8-12 because of a 78-82 overtime home loss against Air Avellino. Marques Green led Avellino with 16 points. Guilherme Giovannoni had 22 points for La Fortezza, Alan Anderson added 13 while Luca Garri and Robrto Chiacig each got 10 for the hosts, that rallied from a 16-point deficit to force overtime, 74-74, on a layup by Giovannoni. A free throw by Eric Williams and a critical triple by Alex Righetti allowed Avellino to escape with a win. Armani Jeans dropped to 9-11 due to a 92-74 road loss against Siviglia Wear Teramo. Clay Tucker paced the winners with 28 points. Danilo Gallinari had 29 points for Milano, Dusan Vukcevic added 15 and Melvin Booker 10. Milano trailed 68-61 after 30 minutes but Teramo sealed the outcome long before the final buzzer.
