In the great Istanbul derby, injury-depleted Fenerbahce Ulker surprisingly downed Efes Pilsen 78-70 for the third time this season. It was another big performance for Willie Solomon, who led Fener with 18 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals and 1 block, as the defending champs beat Efes for the seventh straight time and third this season. After Turkish League leader Galatasaray Cafe Crown was tripped up in Antalya by losing to Buyuksehir Belediyesi 77–74, five teams are within one win of the top spot. Galatasaray is joined by Turk Telekom atop the table at 13-4 and Fener, Efes and Besiktas ColaTurka are close behind at 12-5. Turk Telekom got its 13th win by defeating Mutlu Aku Selcuk University 103-89 in Ankara as Khalid El Amin had his hot hand on display with 33 points plus 4 assists and Chris Williams had 21 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists. Pinar Karsiyaka used an extraordinary first half to beat Besiktas ColaTurka 99-90 in Izmir. Gary Neal paced Karsiyaka with 24 points, Quinton Hosley scored 23 and Sean Marshall had 22. In other games, Mersin Buyuksehir Belediyesi topped CASA TED Kolejliler 84-76 behind Kevin Burleson’s 24 points, Banvit beat Kepez Belediye on the road 70-89 as Kenny Adelke had 23 points and 12 rebounds, Oyak Renault outlasted TTNet Beykoz 69-77 and last place Darussafaka edged Alpella 69-67.
In the great Istanbul derby, injury-depleted Fenerbahce Ulker surprisingly downed Efes Pilsen 78-70 for the third time this season. The defending champs previously topped Efes, whom they also beat in last season’s finals, in the President’s Cup and in the first regular-season game this season. Fener has now won seven straight against its chief rival. The hosts led 19-17 at the end of the first quarter on Omer Onan and Willie Solomon points, but Efes took control of the game in second period with an effective game on offence behind Drew Nicholas and Kerem Gonlum to take a 38-43 halftime lead on a last-second jumper by Andre Hutson. The game slowed down in the third period, but Hutson keep Efes ahead at the end of this period, too 5759. It was an incredible last period and a great fight to win the game. An Ermal Kuqo layup put Efes ahead 63-66 at the midway point, but Fenerbahce never gave up. Omer Asik, Solomon and Onan joined Tarence Kinsey as Fenerbahce created an 11-0 run capped by a Solomon with 90 seconds remaining for a 74-66 lead. A demoralized Efes tried to come back, but it was too late to do it as Fenerbahce snatched the victory. Solomon led Fener with 18 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals and 1 block, young center Asik had a double-double with 15 points plus 13 boards, Kinsey opened his first double-digit account in the Turkish League with 15 points plus 7 rebounds and Onan scored 12. Nicholas lead Efes with 16 points, Ender Arslan scored 13 and both Kerem Gonlum and Hutson added 11 each.
Turkish League leader Galatasaray Cafe Crown was tripped up in Antalya by losing to Buyuksehir Belediyesi 77–74 but remained on top of the standings despite the loss. Jamon Lucas and Marcus Douthit points in the first quarter gave a 13-6 lead to the home team, but Cuneyt Erden and Murat Kaya helped the visitors to end the first quarter just a point behind, 15-14. Ricardo Marsh and Cartier Martin took charge in the second quarter to increase the lead to 40-31 at halftime. A three-pointer by Ersin Gorkem at the beginning of the second half pushed the difference to 12 points, but then Galatasaray responded with a 0-7 spurt by Erdem Turetken to get within 5. Lucas put the hosts back up 50-40 midway through the period. Galatasaray didn’t give up the fight and Robert Hite and Turetken points created another run to take a 50-51 lead. The visitors moved into the last period up 54-58. Martin’s 2 three-pointers plus a Mustafa Kemal Bitim layup at gave Antalya the lead once again, 62-60. Tough defense kept Galatasaray from scoring more as Antalya increased the lead to 73-62 with two minutes remaining. The visitors tried one last push, but came up short as the hosts celebrated the 77-74 victory. Martin scored 17 points, Lucas had 12 and Douthit and Can Akin scored 10 each for Antalya. Turetken and Erden scored 18 each for Galatasaray, Murat Kaya had 12 and Hite added 11 points, but Charles Gaines and Chris Owens remained at 6 points each and Dee Brown just scored 3.
Pinar Karsiyaka used an extraordinary first half to beat Besiktas ColaTurka 99-90 at Karsiyaka Arena in Izmir. The home team scored 62 points against 44 in the first half – 36 in the second quarter – against the weak defense of the visitors as the held the lead from start till finish. After winning the first quarter 26-23, Quinton Hosley, Baris Ermis, Sean Marshall and Gary Neal, rained three-pointers on Besiktas, hitting 9 from downtown just in this period to extend the lead to 20 at one point and 62-44 at the break. Sandro Nicevic, Rick Apodaca and Preston Shumpert tried to push Besiktas against the strong Karsiyaka attack, but the hosts remained steadfast and cruised to the win. Neal finished with a game-high 24 points, Hosley scored 23, Marshall had 22 and both Ermis and Asim Pars added 14 each for Karsiyaka. Shumpert scored 20, Rick Apodaca had 15 and Nicevic added 13 for Besiktas.

The home team took the control of the game from the start and led 30-22 at the end of the first quarter with Erwin Dudley and Chris Williams scoring well. Khalid El Amin and Ivica Jurkovic helped Telekom to increase the lead to 18 points before the visitors closed the gap to 58-47 by halftime. Umut Yenice and Warren Carter cut the difference to 7 points in the third quarter, but Telekom went into the last quarter up 80-70. El Amin took responsibility in the last quarter as Telekom sealed the win. El Amin finished with 33 points plus 4 assists, Williams had 21 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists, Dudley scored 11 and Jurkovic 10. Carter and Yenice shared the lead for Mutlu Aku with 24 points each, Willie Farley had 22 and Kevin Braswell scored 10.
