Romanian League, Regular Season, Game 14: January 26, 2008

The Romanian League is finally back after a lengthy winter break with its first round of the new year. Defending champion CSU Ploiesti thrashed CS Otopeni 89-66 to maintain the first place in the table with a 13-1 record. The hosts started on fire getting a 22-14 margin at the end of the first quarter, that grew to 40-26 at halftime. Otopeni tried to stay alive back from the break, but never became a real treat for Ploiesti. Arcvydas Cepulis had 27 points, Reggie Elliott 19 and Virgil Carutasu pulled down 15 boards for the winners. CSU Sibiu is chasing from second place with an 11-3 mark after taking a large away win over Gaz Metan Medias, 78-95. It was a round dominated by the road teams as Cluj Napoca downed ELBA Timisoara 69-80, Csu Brasov beat BC Valcea 71-77 and Rapid Bucharest outlasted BC Targoviste 61-82. Just two more teams triumphed at home with Pitesti edging Dinamo Bucharest 73-71 and BC Mures crushing CSM Oradea 90-73.
