Russian League, Game 17: January 26-27, 2008

CSKA Moscow and Khimki keep tying atop the Russian League standings, each with a 14-1 record. CSKA survived a tough test by downing Unics 63-75 in Kazan on Saturday. Ramunas Siskauskas paced the winners with 20 points. David Andersen and Trajan Langdon each added 13 while J. R. Holden had 10 for CSKA. Darjus Lavrinovic had 22 points for Unics, that dropped to 9-6. Tariq Kirksay added 10 for the hosts, that rallied from an early deficit to get within 45-47 midway through the third quarter. Holden, Zakhar Pashutin and a final triple by Siskauskas helped CSKA to get a 48-59 edge after 30 minutes. Unics did not recover and CSKA cruised to an important win. Khimki topped Lokomotiv Rostov 77-68 at home behind 19 points from Maciej Lampe. Mike Wilkinson and Kelly McCarty each added 14 while Vitaliy Fridzon and Daniel Ewing got 10 apiece for Khimki. McCarty added 11 rebounds for a double-double. Khimki led 38-30 at halftime and used an 11-0 run that Fridzon capped with a triple to break the game open, 53-37, and control the game until the final buzzer. Dynamo Moscow did not find much trouble to thrash Spartak St. Petersburg 66-89 on the road on Saturday to improve to 12-4. Milos Vujanic paced the winners with 17 points. Robertas Javtokas added 14 and 11 rebounds while Travis Hansen and Sergei Bykov each had 13 points in an easy home win for Dynamo, that led 51-65 after 30 minutes and did not find much trouble to add a big road win. Triumph Lyubertsy improved to 11-3 by thrashing SibirTelekom 100-75 on Sunday. Mire Chatman, Sergei Toporov and Denis Hloponin paced the winners each with 14 points, Terrell Lyday added 13 while Fedor Likholitov had 10 in an easy win for Triumph, that had already sealed the outcome, 75-53, at the end of the third quarter. In other games, Universitet Ugra topped Spartak Primorie 97-88 while Ural Great edged Samara 87-83
