French League, Game 16: January 25-27, 2008
Bryan Bracey - Elan Chalon Sluc Nancy is once again the exclusive leader atop the French League standings at 13-3 by beating Paris-Levallois 64-79 on the road on Saturday. Cyril Julian led the winners with 17 points, Ricardo Greer added 16 while his brother Jeff had 15 for Nancy. Asvel Basket went down to 12-4 because of an 87-65 road loss against Dijon. Meanwhile, Le Mans and Chorale Roanne keep tying for the third spot at 12-5. Roanne edged Strasbourg 71-79 on the road on Sunday behind 19 points each from Marc Salyers and Brion Rush. Meanwhile, Le Mans edged Hyeres-Toulon 68-69 on the road on Friday. Phil Ricci paced the winners with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Pau-Orthez improved to 6-10 by edging Orleans 91-88 at home on Saturday behind 20 points from Max Stanic while Elan Chalon also moved up to 6-10 with a convincing 81-52 home win against Cholet on Saturday with 17 points from Philippe Braud. In other games, Gravelines-Dunkerque downed Le Havre 92-82 while Vichy thrashed Clermont 51-83 behind 17 points from Jimmal Ball.

Nancy is back atop the standings by downing Paris-Levallois 64-79 on the road on Saturday. Cyril Julian led the winners with 17 points. Ricardo Greer added 16, his brother Jeff had 15 while Victor Samnick got 13 for Nancy, that led 19-22 after 10 minutes. Nancy allowed 6 points in the second quarter while an unstoppable Julian led his team to a 25-43 halftime margin. Paris did not recover and Nancy did not find much trouble to add another road win. Chorale Roanne improved to 11-5 and ties for third place with Le Mans by edging Strasbourg 71-79 on the road on Sunday. Salyers and Rush led the winners each with 19 points. Marc-Antoine Pellin added 13 while Mohamed Kone had 10 for Roanne. John McCord had 15 points for Strasbourg, Derrick Obasohan added 13, Afik Nissim 11 and Rob Lewin 10. Strasbourg controlled the game in the first half and a layup by McCord gave the hosts a 33-30 edge at the break. Rush and Salyers fueled a 0-10 run that put Roanne ahead for good, 50-58, after 30 minutes. Strasbourg got back in the game, 71-74, but free throws by Pape Badiane and Pellin sealed the outcome in the final minute. Pau-Orthez improved to 6-10 by edging Orleans 91-88 at home on Saturday behind 20 points from Stanic. Antywane Robinson added 17, Jeff Trepagnier had 15 and Antonio Graves 10 for Pau, that led all the way in the second half. Orleans got within 86-82 already in the final minute but Stanic sealed the outcome from the foul line.

Le Mans moved up to 11-5 by edging Hyeres-Toulon 68-69 on the road on Friday. Ricci led the winners with 20 points and 10 rebounds while Nebojsa Bogavac added 14 for Le Mans, that led 47-56 after 30 minutes. Hyeres-Toulon returned to the game but Ricci dunked it for a 64-69 Le Mans edge with a minute to go. The hosts got within 68-69 but Paul McPherson missed a desperation three-point shot at the buzzer. Chalon improved to 6-10 by simply overwhelming Cholet 81-52 at home on Saturday. Braud paced the winners with 17 points. Darrel Mitchell added 16, Moussa Badiane had 15 while Bryan Bracey got 13 for Chalon, that led 42-32 at halftime and boosted its margin to 63-41 to seal a much-needed win long before the final buzzer. Asvel Basket went down to 12-4 because of an unexpected 87-65 road loss against Dijon. Damir Krupalija led 6 Dijon players in double digits with 18 points. Robert Conley had 17 points for Asvel, Chevon Troutman added 16 while Uche Nsonwu grabbed 10 rebounds for the guests, who trailed 71-51 after 30 minutes and never recovered.
