CSKA Moscow held off the challenge of Khimki 68-64 to take over sole possession of first place in the Russian League. The perennial champion got 16 points from Trajan Langdon to improve to 15-1, while Khimki dropped to 14-2. CSKA used a 22-12 second period to take a 35-27 halftime lead, but Khimki got back in the game in the third period and kept it close down the stretch, but Langdon stepped up even when Khimki got within 65-64 and iced the game with a pair of free throws. Unics Kazan picked up a big 79-83 road win at Dynamo Moscow to climb closer to the top four spots in the standings. Unics built a 51-67 lead heading into the fourth quarter to take care of business early and then held off the hosts’ late charge. Darjus Lavrinovic scored 19 and Jerry McCullough 18 for the winners, who improved to 10-6, two wins fewer than Triumph Lyubertsy and Dynamo, the teams ranked third and fourth in the standings, respectively. Triumph fell 72-61 at Ural Great as Ivan Koljevic scored 22. In other games, CSK VVS-Samara bested Lokomotiv Rostov 78-57 as Sergei Demeshkin netted 23 points, Jelani Gardner scored 20 points as Universitet-Ugra Surgut topped Spartak St.Petersburg 94-89 and Sibirtelekom-Lokomotiv edged Spartak-Primorie Primorskiy 79-78 behind 19 points from Aleksei Kiryanov.

Ural Great thumped Triumph Lyubertsy 72-61. The hosts used a 24-14 second period to go ahead 40-30 at halftime, increased that to 59-41 after 30 minutes and then held off Triumph’s late rally to get to 8-8 in the standings. Ivan Koljevic scored 22 points and Brent Wright had 15 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. Terrell Lyday paced Triumph with 13 and Igor Zamanski added 12.
