Basket Bree downed defending champion Telindus BC Oostende on Saturday to shake things up again in the Belgian League. The result leaves three teams with only five losses in the league – Oostende and Bree at 13-5 and Belgacom Liege Basket at 12-5 – but Dexia Mons-Hainaut (13-6) now holds first place on points. Bree won 93-82 as Doron Perkins posted 26 points, 7 assists and 5 steals and Dor Fisher recorded 18 points, 16 rebounds and 4 blocked shots. Oostende used a 0-9 run to take a 29-36 lead early in the second period, but Michael Meeks scored 10 as Bree responded with 14 unanswered points en route to a 50-42 halftime lead. Oostende came back to tie it at 70-70 at the start of the fourth quarter on a Veselin Petrovic triple and while the visitors kept it close, never took the lead. Perkins secured the win for Bree with back-to-back triples with two minutes left as the lead rose to 10 and Oostende slipped from first place. Elvir Ovcina led Oostende with 19 points and 7 rebounds, Petrovic added 18 points, Sam Van Rossom had 16 points and 7 assists and Greg Brunner added 10. Mons shot to the top spot after downing Generali Okapi Aalstar on the road 66-78 behind Travis Conlan’s 16 points. Spirou Basket Charleroi sits in fourth place following an 80-84 road win at Optima Gent. Tremmell Darden led the way with 27 points, Len Matela added 22 and Michael Jordan scored 15 and dished a season-high 10 assists for the winners. Spotter Leuven downed Antwerp Diamond Giants 68-63 as Raimondas Petrauskus scored 19 and Izik Ohanon added 16, while Brandon Gay posted 13 and Yves Dupont and Ayinde Ubaka had 10 points apiece in defeat. Also Saturday, Liege topped VOO Verviers-Pepinster 94-98 in overtime thanks to Andre Emmett’s 29-point effort.
