French League, Game 17: February 1-3, 2008
Eddie Shannon - StrasbourgThe 17th week of the French League featured few surprises as all favorites won their games. On Friday, Strasbourg won a road game at Cholet by a close 69-71 thanks to 20 points by John McCord and a decisive bucket by Eddie Shannon. In a ULEB Cup duel, SLUC Nancy defeated Elan Chalon by 84-61 thanks to Ricardo Greer's 9 points, 10 rebounds and 12 assists. Asvel Basket was also a clear home winner thanks to a 94-78 decision over Hyeres-Toulon as Lamayne Wilson bagged 22 points for the winners. Le Mans also took an important home win over Gravelines by 67-60 with Sam Clancy's 12 points. On the other hand, Pau-Orthez fell once again on the road, this time against Le Havre by 73-68 despite Antonio Graves' 27 points. In the last game of the weekend, Chorale Roanne blasted Orleans at home by 93-73 as Brion Rush shined with 22 points and 7 assists. The Semaine Des As is now awaiting for next week.

The weekend started on Friday with a thriller. Strasbourg took a road win at Cholet by John McCord had 20 points and Afik Nissim 11 for the winners. Cholet controlled the game with four minutes to go, 59-52 after 30 minutes, but Strasbourg came back in the last moments as Eddie Shannon hit the decisive basket that gave the win to the guests by 69-71. Already on Saturday, Pau-Orthez suffered another road loss, this time at Le Havre by 73-68. Antonio Graves was the only double-digit scorer for Pau with 27 points. After 10 minutes, the hosts already dominated by 31-15 and even though Pau worked its way back to the game, 61-51 after 20 minutes, time ran out for the guests who lost by 5 in the end. SLUC Nancy was a clear home winner over Elan Chalon by 84-61 in a ULEB Cup duel. Cyril Julian led the winners with 17 points, DJ Harrison had 14, Jeff Greer and Victor Samnick had 11 apiece while Ricardo Greer was one point shy from the triple-double with 9 points, 10 rebounds and 12 assists. For Chalon, only Rolan Roberts with 19 points and Darrell Mitchell with 15 scored in double digits. Nancy started rolling and it had no mercy on Chalon as after 10 minutes the score was 22-14 and it progressed to 36-21 at the break. The second half was a formality in which the guests could never find a way to break Nancy's solid play.

Asvel Basket also took an easy home win on Saturday as it blasyet Hyeres-Toulon by 94-78. Up to six players scored in double digits for the winners. Lamayn Wilson had 22 points, Uche Nsonwu had 14, Robert Conley 13, Yohann Sangare 12 and Nouha Diakite and Chevon Troutman posted 11 apiece. This collective play allowed the hosts to dominate by 46-38 at the break. The difference went upo to 13 points after 30 minutes and Asvel played to maintain the difference in the last period. Le Mans Sarthe was also a home winner over Gravelines by 67-60. Nebojsa Bogavac led the winners with 13 points, Sam Clancy added 12 and Nicolas Batum and Alain Koffi had 10 each. The first quarter started well for Le Mans and after 10 minutes the hosts led by 22-16. However, Gravelines reacted and after 30 minutes it was leading by 42-48 thanks to the Joe Bunn - Vincent Grier duo. In the last period however, the hosts turned things upside down for the fourth straight win. In the last game on Sunday, Chorale Roanne never suffered to secure a 93-73 home win over Orleans as Brion Rush led the winners with his 22 points. Pierric Poupet added 13 points, William Soliman and Mohamed Kone had 11 apiece and Marc-Antoine Pellin added 10 for the winners. The game only had a story to tell in the first quarter, as Orleans resisted for a 23-18 after 10 minutes. However, Roanne exploded in the second quarter and never looked back. A 51-32 at the break led to a 79-47 after 30 minutes that broke the game open. In other games, Clermont won at home against Paris-Levallois by 81-73 and Dijon was a road winner at Vichy by a clear 60-73.
