Italian League, Regular Season, Game 22: February 2-3, 2008
David Hawkins - Lottomatica Roma Montepaschi Siena downed Eldo Napoli to continue to be the uncontested leader of the Italian League with 19-2 record. However the race for second place remained hot with three teams at 15-7 – Lottomatica Roma, Premiata Montegranaro and Air Avellino – all winners over the weekend. Roma defeated Scafati 82-73, Montegranaro needed overtime to beat Solsonica Rieti on the road 95-102, and Air Avellino topped Tisettanta Cantu 90-72. Terrell McIntyre scored 22 points – including a perfect 10 for 10 from the foul line – to lead Montepaschi to an 86-73 victory. David Hawkins had 20 points to help Lottomatica Roma beat Legea Scafati 82-73. Meanwhile Virtus Vidivici Bologna and Armani Jeans Milano picked up big away wins. Defense was the key for Virtus to take a huge away win over Benetton Treviso, 55-69, while Armani Jeans thrashed Pierrel Capo d'Orlando 61-88 led by 20 points from Melvin Booker. Snaidero Udine downed Upim Bologna on the road 71-79 as Mike Penberthy had 5 triples and 28 points. In other games, Scavolini Spar Pesaro bested Angelico Biella 90-81 behind 20 points from Michael Hicks and Siviglia Wear Teramo defeated Cimberio Varese on the road 79-88 thanks to Roger Powell’s 20 points.

Montepaschi Siena needed just three scorers in double figure to beat Eldo Napoli 86-73. Ben Eze scored a rare three-pointer to get the hosts their first comfortable lead, 17-7, while 5 straight points from Keith McLeod bridging the first two quarters gave a 30-15 margin to Siena that grew to 51-32 by halftime 51-32. Terrell McIntyre extended the difference to 20 in the third quarter and started to cruise. Napoli climbed within 68-60 early in the last quarter, but Montepaschi never allowed them to get any closer. McIntyre led the way with 22 points – including a perfect 10 for 10 from the foul line – Eze had 12 and Ksistof Lavrinovic 11. David Hawkins had 20 points to help Lottomatica Roma beat Legea Scafati 82-73. The game was balanced in the first quarter with Roma leading 21-20, before Hawkins and Roko-Leni Ukic pushed the hosts to a 48-41 halftime lead. Rodrigo De La Fuente was the protagonist in the third quarter as Roma went ahead 64-54. Hawkins gave a 71-54 cushion to Lottomatica to close the match. De La Fuente and Erazem Lorbek added 13 points apiece for the winners.

Defense was the key for Virtus VidiVici Bologna to take a huge away win over Benetton Treviso, 55-69. Virtus limited Benetton to just 9 points in the first quarter and led 27-35 at halftime. A 6-0 spurt with 4 points from Dewarick Spencer at the start of the second half made it a 14-point cushion. Benetton cut the deficit to 41-49 when Mario Austin hit from beyond the arc, but another 6-0 run highlighted by Travis Best gave to the guests a 41-55 advantage entering in the last quarter, which proved to be enough. Spencer led the way for Virtus with 16 points, Alan Andersen added 15 and Travis Best 14. Lionel Chalmers amassed 16, Austin 14 and Marco Mordente 11 for Benetton. Armani Jeans thrashed Pierrel Capo d'Orlando 61-88 on the road led by 20 points from Melvin Booker. Milano started at its best with a huge 10-28 first quarter, then led 27-48 at halftime, extended it to 39-63 after 30 minutes on the way to an easy win. Ansu Sesay added 19 points and Travis Watson amassed a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. Snaidero Udine downed Upim Bologna on the road 71-79. Udine led from the start, thanks to an amazing shooting night, including 12 for 27 from downtown, as Mike Penberthy had 5 triples and 28 points. Sven Schulze hit from beyond the arc to set a 19-30 margin for the guests after 10 minutes, but the hosts tied it at 36-36 with a three-point-play by of Jamel Thomas. Snaidero rebuilt a comfortable 38-45 cushion at halftime. Upim tied it again through Oscar Torres at 55-55, but Joel Zacchetti to make it 57-59 at the end of the third quarter. Peneberthy gave a 62-70 cushion to Udine that was enough till the end.
