Belgian League, Regular Season, Game 20: February 9, 2008
Chuck Davis - Telindus Oostende Telindus BC Oostende again has the best record in the Belgian League after beating Antwerp Diamond Giants 88-71 for the second time in a few days on Saturday. Defending champion Oostende improved to 14-5, though the top of the table remains crowded after Dexia Mons-Hainaut edged previous leader Basket Bree 87-85 to improve to 14-6 and Belgacom Liege Basket blasted Generali Okapi Aalstar 91-74 to get to 13-5. Titus Ivory shined with 16 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists to lead Oostende to victory, just days after his team won a Belgian Cup game at Antwerp. The visitors were stronger early and led by 8 late in the first period, but behind Greg Brunner and Veselin Petrovic, Oostende regained the lead and went ahead 47-44 by halftime. Ivory then scored the first 11 points of the second half to essentially wrap up the result for the home team, as Antwerp never got within single digits again. Brunner also finished with 16 points, Chuck Davis added 13 and Petrovic 12. Ben Gay And Nick Oudendag led Antwerp with 12 points apiece, Mladen Sekularac had 11 and Ayinde Ubaka 10. Mons blew a 17-point halftime lead, but won on Mike Lenzly’s late layup. Nick Jacobson and Dor Fisher pieced together a 0-11 third-quarter run to get back in the game and then Kevin Reed tied it and gave Bree a lead early in the fourth. The game remained tight till the very end, when Lenzly won it for the hosts. Justin Gray led Mons with 22 points and Nate Reinking added 18. Jacobson paced Bree with 23. Liege took care of business early with a 23-12 first period that led to a 49-30 halftime lead. Andre Emmett had 28 points and Scott Brakebill 21 for the winners. Meannwhile Spirou Basket Charleroi beat VOO Verviers-Pepinster 68-61 thanks to a fine defensive effort that limited the visitors to 6 second-period points. Len Matela and Wes Wilkinson scored 15 each and Tremmell Darden added 11 for Spirou. Also Saturday, Ron Lewis scored 19 to lead Spotter Leuven past Optima Gent 77-67.
