Telindus Oostende solidified its lead atop the Belgian League table on Saturday with a 76-88 road win at Optima Gent. The defending champs improved to 15-5 and now have a one-victory advantage over Dexia Mons-Hainaut, Spirou Basket Charleroi and Basket Bree – with a game at hand compared to the first two. Oostende was in control throughout leading by 9 after 10 minutes and at halftime and increasing the advantage to 15 after three periods before easing up down the stretch. Sam Van Rossom paced Oostende with 20 points, Elvir Ovcina and Titus Ivory added 13 apiece and Chuck Davis had 10 for the winners. Brandon Freeman led Gent with 24. Charleroi blasted Spotter Leuven 78-60 to hold onto a share of second place. The hosts outscored Leuven by 9, 11 and 7, respectively, in the first three periods, while holding the visitors to 8 in the second period, to take a dominating 68-41 lead en route to an easy win. Tremmell Darden led Spirou with 17, Len Matela added 14 points, 12 rebounds and 4 blocks and Christophe Beghin had 11 for the winners. Lionel Bosco netted 12 for Leuven. Mons suffered an 82-76 road loss at VOO Verviers-Pepinster behind Jamar Wilson's 21 points. In other games, Basket Bree beat Generali Okapi Aalstar 85-78 as Doron Perkins scored 26 and Dor Fisher had 19 points, 13 boards and 4 blocks and the Antwerp Giants needed overtime to defeat Belgacom Liege Basket 97-84.
