The Birstal Starwings stunned on Sunday the Swiss League leaders Olympic Fribourg 82-80, while Lugano Tigers beat Monthey 69-49 at home to climb within a win of the top spot. Mike Coffin nailed a shot from downtown with seconds left in the game to ensure the win for Birstal, which got 20 points from Tony McCrory and 18 from Jarred McCurry. Pascal Perrier-David led Olympic with 19. Olympic built a 37-43 advantage at halftime, but the hosts climbed within 60-62 after 30 minutes. In the last quarter, the teams exchanged leads and then Coffin was the go-to-guy. The Tigers downed Monthey 69-49 by displaying an intense and aggressive defense. Lugano built a 44-24 halftime lead to wrap it up early. Dusan Mladjan led the way with 13 points. Meanwhile Meyrin Grand Sacconex needed an extra session to beat the Geneva Devils 99-95 behind 31 points from Albert Myles. Nyon topped Vevey 70-81 on the road and SAV Vacallo recorded a 70-81 win on the road over Boncourt thanks to 27 points from Slaven Smiljanic.
