Alba Berlin survived a stern test from BG 74 Gottingen to take a 66-70 road win and retain the top spot in the German League. Berlin improved to 17-4 and now leads second place Artland Dragons and third place Bayer Giants Leverkusen by one and two wins, respectively, after both teams won over the weekend. Julius Jenkins scored 14 and dished 5 assists to lead Berlin to a tough win, as pesky Gottingen remained close until the very end. Artland got some big three-pointers in the fourth quarter from Lamont McIntosh to come back and beat ratiopharm Ulm on the road 84-87. Leon Rodgers led Artland with 21 points and McIntosh added 18. Leverkusen recorded a tough win by holding off a late Brose Baskets Bamberg charge for a 70-68 victory. Brant Bailey buried a pair of key free throws with 43 seconds remaining and Nate Fox led the home team with 17 points, 11 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals. Meanwhile the Koln 99ers and Deutsche Bank Skyliners continued to move up the standings with wins. The 99ers used a big third quarter to defeat the LTi Giessen 46ers 78-67. Yassin Idbihi finished with 24 points and 18 rebounds to lead the winning effort. The Skyliners blasted digibu Baskets 68-88 as Ilian Evitmov scored 26 points and grabbed 9 rebounds. EnBW Ludwigsburg outscored TBB Trier 25-53 in the second half for a 75-99 win. Ronald Ross led the way with 25 points and 9 rebounds. In other games, EWE Baskets Oldenburg defeated Telekom Baskets Bonn 86-72 behind Rickey Paulding’s 18 points, Walter Tigers Tubingen downed Science City Jena 64-84 as Ray Nixon shined with 17 points, 7 assists and 5 steals and Eisbaren Bremerhaven bested New Yorker Phantoms Braunschweig 81-72.

After a back-and-forth first half ended tied 32-32, Berlin took a narrow lead in the third quarter and made it stand up, despite Gottingen keeping it close until the very end. Julius Jenkins scored 14 and dished 5 assists and Patrick Femerling also netted 14 to lead Berlin. Aleksander Nadjfeji added 13 points, Bobby Brown 12 and Dijon Thompson posted 10 points and 10 rebounds. Jahmar Thorpe paced Gottingen with 18 points. The Artland Dragons used a strong fourth quarter to come back and beat ratiopharm Ulm on the road 84-87. The hosts held a narrow lead after 10 minutes and padded it throughout the game, leading 44-39 at halftime and 67-60 after three periods. But Artland stormed out for the fourth quarter and a Lamont McIntosh’s three-pointer soon gave the visitors their first lead since the opening period. It stayed close from that point until McIntosh stepped up with another triple with 32 seconds to go, which gave the Dragons an 80-84 advantage that they never relinquished. Leon Rodgers led Artland with 21 points, McIntosh added 18, Terrance Thomas 13 and Chad Prewitt 11. Kyle Bailey had 18 for Ulm in defeat.
Bayer Giants Leverkusen recorded a tough win by holding off a late Brose Baskets Bamberg charge for a 70-68 victory. The game went in a different direction every period, with the hosts leading 21-11 after 10 minutes, Bamberg fighting back to get within 34-33 at halftime, Leverkusen using a 20-11 third period to again go up by double figures and Bamberg storming back to within 1 in the final minute. Brant Bailey buried a pair of key free throws with 43 seconds remaining and Robert Garrett's attempted three at the other end was off-target, allowing the hosts to hit more free throws and seal the victory. Nate Fox led the home team with 17 points, 11 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals and Brendan Winters added 15 points. Darren Fenn carried Bamberg with 18 points, Predrag Suput had 16 points and Garrett had 15 points and 9 boards.
The Koln 99ers used a big third quarter to defeat the LTi Giessen 46ers 78-67. Trailing 36-38, Koln used a 24-11 third period to take control en route to its ninth win in its last 11 games. The hosts had 18 offensive rebounds – 11 coming from Yassin Idbihi – which proved to be a major factor. Idbihi finished with 24 points and 18 rebounds to lead the winning effort. Milko Bjelica added 18 points, Derek Raivio had 15 and Marko Keselj 13. Rouven Roessler scored 20 in defeat for Giessen. The Skyliners jumped out to a double-digit first-quarter lead, increased it to 31-47 by halftime and then cruised the rest of the way for a 68-88 win at digibu Baskets. Ilian Evitmov scored 26 points and 9 rebounds, Pascal Roller added 16 points, Koko Archibong 15, Derrick Allen 13 and Ken Johnson posted 10 points and 10 rebounds for Frankfurt. Tim Black had 19 points and 6 assists in a losing effort. EnBW Ludwigsburg used a huge second half to destroy TBB Trier 75-99. The hosts led 50-46 at halftime, but Ludwigsburg answered with a 25-53 second half to wrap up a big win. Ronald Ross led the way with 25 points and 9 rebounds, Brandon Woudstra added 19 points and 8 assists, Coleman Collins had 15 points and Jason Dourisseau 11. Caleb Green led Trier with 18.
