Another week, another Italian League win for Montepaschi Siena, that bounced back from its loss in the Italian TiM Cup quarterfinals by thrashing Armani Jeans 67-90 in Milano on Sunday morning. Ksistof Lavrinovic paced the winners with 18 points, Terrell McIntyre added 16 while Romain Sato and Bootsy Thornton each had 15 for Montepaschi. Ansu Sesay had 24 points for Milano. Benetton Treviso improved to 10-13 by edging Tisettanta Cantu 72-74 on the road on Saturday behind 16 points from Lionel Chalmers. Meanwhile, Upim Bologna moved up to 11-12 by edging Cimberio Varese 85-81 at home on Sunday. Stefano Mancinelli paced the winners with 26 points, Joseph Forte added 20 while James Thomas grabbed 15 rebounds for Fortitudo. Lottomatica Roma dropped to 15-8 due to a 82-71 road loss against Pierrel Capo d'Orlando while La Fortezza Bologna went down to 10-13 because of a 84-76 road loss against Eldo Napoli. In other games, Air Avellino downed Angelico Biella 71-82, Legea Scafati topped Snaidero Udine 86-82, Siviglia Wear Teramo bested Solsonica Rieti 91-82 while Premiata Montegranaro edged Scavolini Spar Pesaro 88-91 behind 26 points on 11-for-11 two-pointers and 12 rebounds from Sharrod Ford.
Montepaschi Siena left no doubt about its power days before its decisive Top 16 game against Efes Pilsen by thrashing Armani Jeans 67-90 in Milano on Sunday morning. Lavrinovic paced the winners with 18 points. McIntyre added 16, Sato and Thornton each had 15 while Ben Eze got 12 for Montepaschi, that led 15-33 after 10 minutes, boosted its margin to 36-55 at halftime and did not find any problems to control the game until the final buzzer. Sesay had 24 points for Milano, Danilo Gallinari 15 and Dusan Vukcevic 12. Benetton Treviso improved to 10-13 by edging Tisettanta Cantu 72-74 on the road on Saturday. Chalmers paced the winners with 16 points. Mario Austin added 15, John Lucas had 11 while Engin Atsur got 10 for Benetton. Chalmers, Reece Gaines and free throws by Atsur gave Benetton a 70-73 edge with 2 minutes to go. DaShaun Wood scored for Cantu, Chalmers hit a free throw while Angelo Gigli had a big block on Wood to seal the outcome in the game's final possession.
Upim Bologna improved to 11-12 by edging Cimberio Varese 85-81 at home on Sunday. Mancinelli paced the winners with 26 points, Forte added 20 while Thomas grabbed 15 rebounds for Fortitudo, that trailed 36-43 at halftime. Mancinelli, Forte and Davide Lamma allowed Upim to get a 65-55 margin after 30 minutes. Varese got within 81-80 with less than 2 minutes to go, but Forte and Oscar Torres sealed the outcome from the foul lines. La Fortezza Bologna dropped to 10-13 due to a 84-76 road loss against Eldo Napoli. Chris Monroe led the winners with 21 points. Alan Anderson led Virtus with 15 points, Guilherme Giovannoni added 14, Dewarick Spencer had 12 and Roberto Chiacig 10 for the guests, that traild 73-55 after 30 minutes and never recovered. Lottomatica Roma dropped to 15-8 due to a 82-71 road loss against Pierrel Capo d'Orlando. Romel Beck led Capo d'Orlando with 21 points. David Hawkins had 19 points for Lottomatica, Jon Stefansson added 17, Erazem Lorbek 13 and Rodrigo De La Fuente 11. A triple by Hawkins gave Roma its last lead, 59-61, early in the fourth quarter. Samuel Mejia led a 12-2 run that gave Capo d'Orlando a 71-63 edge and Lottomatica did not recover.
