Greg Brunner - Telindus OostendeThe status quo in the Belgian League remained for another week as the top four teams all won to remain with the same amount of wins. Defending champion Telindus BC Oostende and Basket Bree have the best record at 16-6, while Spirou Basket Charleroi and Dexia Mons-Hainaut have the same amount of wins, though one more defeat. Oostende topped Spotter Leuven 60-71 as Veselin Petrovic and Greg Brunner scored 16 points apiece. Bree bested VOO Verviers-Pepinster 68-81 as Dor Fisher dominated the paint to the tune of 22 points, 20 rebounds and 3 blocked shots. Earnest Shelton scored a season-high 24 off the bench for Pepinster. Charleroi smashed Belgacom Liege Basket 84-59 as every player on the Spirou squad scored from the field, led by Wes Wilkinson’s 18 points. Mons pulled away in the third quarter to beat Antwerp Diamond Giants on the road 67-82 thanks to 23 points from Justin Gray. Meanwhile last placed Optima Gent edged Generali Okapi Aalstar 73-71 as John Turek came through with 20 points and 13 boards.

Telindus Oostende topped Spotter Leuven 60-71 as Veselin Petrovic and Greg Brunner scored 16 points apiece. Petrovic hit a three and scored a layup as Oostende started the game on a 0-9 run. Leuven came back to tie it and then take a 22-20 lead midway through the second period on a Jef Vander Jonckheyd triple. Brunner scored 5 during Oostende’s second 0-9 run as it built a 30-36 halftime lead. Ron Lewis free throws made it a 3-point game twice in the third, but Chris McRay scored 5 points late in the third period to make it 46-56 heading into the last 10 minutes. Sam Van Rossm and Titus Ivory continued to push the visitors, who soon led by 16 and coasted the rest of the way. McCray and Ivory both added 10 points in the winning effort. Lewis paced Leuven with 17.

Charleroi smashed Belgacom Liege Basket 84-59 as every player on the Spirou squad scored from the field, led by Wes Wilkinson’s 18 points. Up 1 early in the second period, the hosts went on a 21-2 run during which Wilkinson scored 8 and Charleroi never looked back. The lead peaked at 30 in the fourth quarter as Charleroi coasted to a big win. Tremmell Darden added 16 points and Len Matela had 13. Andre Emmett paced Liege with 24. Dexia Mons-Hainaut pulled away in the third quarter to beat Antwerp Diamond Giants on the road 67-82 thanks to 23 points from Justin Gray. The visitors led 43-45 at halftime and Antwerp took a 1-point lead early in the third, but scored only 2 more three-pointers in the rest of the period as Mons reeled off 22 points to take a 15-point lead that was plenty the rest of the way. Andrew Sullivan added 20 points for the winners, while Ayinde Ubaka led Antwerp with 16, Ian Hanavan had 13 and Alexander Lichodsijewski 12 in defeat.
