Dutch League, Regular Season, Game 34: March 4-7, 2008
The Rotterdam Challengers opened up a big lead and held on to defeat league-leading MyGuide Amsterdam 76-71 in the midweek round of Dutch League play. Rotterdam led 42-27 at halftime and was still up 14 heading into the fourth quarter. Amsterdam fought back by scoring 31 in the last 10 minutes, but it wasn’t enough as Rotterdam improved to 18-12 and joined a crowded pack vying for third place in the standings. Frank Young hit 3 three-pointers on the way to 15 and Chaz Briggs added 13 points and 13 boards to lead the Challengers. Avis Wyatts paced Amsterdam with 15 and 10. The West Brabant Giants held onto second place by downing Landstede 90-84 thanks to 25 points from Patrick Pope. Two other contenders for third place, Matrixx Magixx and Hanzevast Capitals, also won. Matrixx Magixx trailed 41-43 at halftime, by toasted Aris Frisland in the second half – including a 30-16 fourth quarter – to win 93-76. Alhaji Mohammed had 20 to lead Matrixx Magixx. Meanwhile The Capitals came from behind to down Upstairs Weert 90-96 as Alton Mason posted 21 points, 5 assists and 4 steals. Also during the week, Zorg&Zekerheid bested Den Helder Seals 87-82 as Donald Wilson and Stephen Ross scored 22 points apiece.
