CSKA Moscow improved to 19-1 and stayed atop the Russian League standings by thrashing CSK VVS-Samara 70-97 on the road on Sunday. Nikos Zisis led the winners with 19 points. Matjaz Smodis added 18, Marcus Goree had 13 while Victor Khryapa barely missed a double-double with 12 points and 9 rebounds. Despite playing without reigning Euroleague MVP Theo Papaloukas, CSKA led 33-57 at halftime and sealed the outcome long before the final buzzer. Khimki stayed second at 18-2 by edging Ural Great 87-94 in Perm on Friday behind 18 points and 11 rebounds from Maciej Lampe. Pat Burke added 15 points, Vitaliy Fridzon had 14, Anton Ponkrashov got 13 and Clay Tucker 11 for Khimki, that led 39-47 at halftime and boosted its margin to 58-69 after 30 minutes to hold off a late Ural Great rally to win the game. Dynamo Moscow dropped to 14-6 due to a 74-67 road loss against Lokomotiv Rostov on Thursday. Kresimir Loncar led the winners with 18 points. Travis Hansen led Dynamo with 17 points, Robertas Javtokas added 14 and Antonis Fotsis 10 for the guests, that led 50-58 after 31 minutes. Loncar led a 17-5 run that Thomas Gardner capped with a triple, allowing Rostov to get full control of the game. In other games, Universitet edged Enisey 86-84 in overtime on a game-winning basket by Chudney Gray.
