Matrixx Magixx Nijmegen took a big step to distance itself from defending champion EiffelTowers Den Bosch with an overtime win this week. Chris Copeland, Tyler Smith and Mattis McHugh scored 20 points apiece in a 93-87 victory as third-placed Matrixx Magixx improved to 23-13 – two wins more than EiffelTowers. Damone Brown had a chance to ice the win for EiffelTowers at the end of regulation, but he missed from the line, Alhaji Mohammed seized the rebound and found Todd Abernethy whose buzzer-beater tied the game at 76-76 and forced the extra period. The momentum then remained with the hosts as Copeland drilled a pair of three-pointers to put Nijmegen on top and then Mohammed and Smith and hit their free throws to seal the win. Copeland, Smith and McHugh combined for 25 rebounds and Abernethy finished with 14 points and 7 assists for the winners. Brown led EiffelTowers with 23 points and 8 rebounds, Kees Akerboom Jr. added 19, Robert Owens had 17 and Travis Young 12. Meanwhile second placed West Brabant Giants slipped up, losing 84-74 at the Rotterdam Challengers. In other games, Landstede came from behind to beat Hanzevast Capitals 66-74 as Robby Bostain posted 25 points, Zorg&Zekerheid downed Upstairs Weert on the road 74-88 as David Chiotti and Donald Wilson scored 20 points apiece and Aris Friesland bested Den Helder Seals 83-80 thanks to Dillion Sneed's 28 points and 16 rebounds and Jesse Kimbrough’s 22 points and 11 assists.
