Baltic League playoffs, First round, Game 1: March 22-27, 2008
Marius Prekevicius - Siauliai Nevezis Kedainiai scored the biggest upset in the opening leg of the Baltic League playoffs' first round, edging ASK Riga 54-52. The two-game series is one of four where the teams look to advance to the quarterfinals before last season’s finalists and the top two teams this years, Zalgiris Kaunas and Lietuvos Rytas, enter the playoffs in the semifinal round. In the other opening games, Kalev/Cramo pasted Ventspils 70-55, Siauliai bested Rock Tartu 83-85 and Barons/LMT defeated VEF Riga 67-77. The low-scoring game between Nevezis and ASK was close throughout and was only decided on Benas Veikalas’s buzzer-beater. AidasViskontas led the winners with 13 points, while AJ Bramlett scored 15 and grabbed 13 rebounds in defeat. The return leg is set for Saturday in Riga. Meanwhile, Kalev/Cramo finished the game on a 12-2 run to destroy Ventspils by 15. Kristjan Kangur paced Kalev with 16 points and 8 rebounds and Ed Scott added 13, while Jimmy Baxter led Ventspils with 12 points. Siauliai got 20 from Marius Prekevicius and 19 from Antonio Grant to edge Rock. The hosts shot 14 for 29 from downtown to secure the win.
