Raul Lopez - Real Madrid Real Madrid got closer to win the Spanish League regular season and improved to 24-4 by downing Akasvayu Girona 77-69 in the Spanish capital on Saturday. Raul Lopez led the winners with 17 points while Alex Mumbru added 13 for Madrid. DKV Joventut is second at 21-7 by topping Ricoh Manresa 83-85 on the road on Sunday behind 26 points from Rudy Fernandez. AXA FC Barcelona and Tau Ceramica keep tying for third place at 20-8. Barcelona thrashed end-of-the-table Grupo Begar Leon 61-82 on the road on Saturday, as Gianluca Basile led the winners with 15 points. Meanwhile, Tau downed Kalise Gran Canaria 81-69 in Vitoria on Saturday with 16 points from Will McDonald. Pamesa Valencia improved to 17-11 and is fifth overall by downing Grupo Capitol Valladolid 83-67 behind 26 points from Ruben Douglas. Unicaja went down to 15-13 due to a 79-67 road loss against iurbentia Bilbao Basket. In other games, ViveMenorca topped Polaris World CB Murcia 87-79, MMT Estudiantes defeated Cajasol 103-91 while Alta Gestion Fuenlabrada rallied to beat C.B. Granada 82-86 behind 25 points from Marko Tomas.

Smith and Mumbru combined for 15 points in the first quarter to give Madrid a 24-13 margin after 10 minutes. San Emeterio and Erik Daniels brought Akasvayu within 42-35 at the break. Madrid stayed ahead all the way in the second half, but a free throw by San Emeterio brought the guests even closer, 67-63, with 4 minutes to go. Lopez, Smith and Blagota Sekulic helped Madrid to seal the outcome. DKV Joventut is second at 21-7 by topping Ricoh Manresa 83-85 on the road on Sunday behind 26 points from Fernandez. Lubos Barton added 13 while Jan Jagla had 11 for Joventut. Fernandez led Joventut to a 44-60 margin midway through the third quarter, but Manresa rallied and tied the game, 83-83, already in the final minute. Fernandez made a free throw, Bailey missed in the other end while Jagla sealed the outcome by missing his second foul shot on purpose with 2 seconds remaining. AXA FC Barcelona moved up to 20-8 by thrashing end-of-the-table Grupo Begar Leon 61-82 on the road on Saturday. Gianluca Basile led the winners with 15 points. Jaka Lakovic added 14, Ersan Ilyasova had 12, Mario Kasun 11 and Fran Vazquez 10 in an east road win for Barcelona, that led 34-44 at halftime and kept a safe lead all the way until the final buzzer.

Tau Ceramica also improved to 20-8 by downing Kalise Gran Canaria 81-69 in Vitoria on Saturday. McDonald paced the winners with 16 points. Pete Mickeal added 15, Pablo Prigioni and Mirza Teletovic each had 14 while Sergi Vidal got 12 for Tau. Marcus Norris had 15 points for Gran Canaria, that went down to 14-14. Sergio Perez, Carl English and Sitapha Savane each added 10 for the guests, that trailed 53-52 late in the third quarter. Prigioni and McDonald stepped up right when it mattered while Mickeal gave Tau a 74-62 lead with 3 minutes to go, enough to seal the outcome down the stretch. Pamesa Valencia improved to 17-11 and is fifth overall by downing Grupo Capitol Valladolid 83-67 behind 26 points from an unstoppable Douglas. He had 11 points in the first quarter to give Pamesa a 25-13 margin after 10 minutes. Pamesa kept shining in defense while a basket by Mindaugas Timinskas made it a 23-point game, 48-25 at halftime. Valladolid never recovered and Pamesa cruised to a well-deserved win. Unicaja went down to 15-13 due to a 79-67 road loss against iurbentia Bilbao Basket. Marcelinho Huertas led the winners with 22 points, as Bilbao Basket broke its six-game losing streak. Carlos Jimenez had 13 points for Unicaja, Jiri Welsch added 11 and Bojan Popovic 10. Unicaja got its last lead, 60-62, midway through the fourth quarter. Huertas and Javi Salgado stepped up in crunch time to win it for Bilbao Basket.
