Ukrainian League, Game 22: March 28-29, 2008

The Ukrainian League regular season came to an end this weekend and saw BC Kyiv's 21-game winning streak come to an end. Azovmash finished second at 18-4 by thrashing Kyiv 88-68 in Mariupol on Saturday. Robert Archibald paced the winners with 19 points. Tomas Delininkaitis added 15, Rodney Buford had 14, Panagiotis Liadelis got 11 while Yahor Meshcharakoy contributed 10 for Azovmash. Pooh Jeter had 16 points for Kyiv, Artur Drozdov added 13 while Josh Davis and Nenad Mijatovic each got 10 for the guests. Archibald and Meshcharakou allowed Azovmash to get a mamooth 27-6 lead after 10 minutes. Kyiv tried to get back in the game while Drozdov followed a triple with a dunk for a 50-46 deficit after 30 minutes. Azovmash did not panic, however, and used a 12-0 run to break the game for good in the fourth quarter. Khimik finished third at 15-7 with a 69-83 home win against BK-93 Pulsar while Politekhnika Lvovskaya was fourth at 14-8 by topping the Cherkasy Monkeys 79-91 on Friday. In other games, Dnipro edged Odessa 69-67, MBC Mykolaiv thrashed Kryvbasbasket 90-60 while Budivelnyk upset Sumykhimprom 89-78. As such, the quarterfinal playoffs matchups are: Kyiv - Dnipro, Azovmash - Cherkasy, Khimik - Mykolaiv and Politekhnika - Sumykhimprom.
