Polish League, Regular Season, Game 26: March 29, 2008

The Polish League regular season came to a close on Saturday with ULEB Cup Final Eight team PGE Turow Zgorzelec, defending champion Prokom Trefl Sopot, Anwil Wloclawek and ASCO Slask Wroclaw claiming the automatic berths to the quarterfinals, while the following first round playoff matchups were set up: Polpak S.A. Swiecie vs Energa Czarni Slupsk, Atlas Stal Ostrow Wlkp vs Gornik Walbrzych, Bank BPS Basket Kwidzyn vs Kotwica Kolobrzeg, and AZS Koszalin vs SPEC Polonia Warszawa. Turow Zgorzelec, which had already clinched the regular season crown last week, lost its finale to finish 17-7 – the same record as Prokom. Turow, playing without David Logan, Thomas Kelati, Dragisa Drobnjak and Andres Rodriguez, who were all resting in preparation for the Final Eight, lost its game in Kolobrzeg 81-75. The game was even till the end, but in last seconds the hosts hit their free throws and Turow’s players missed some triples. Alvin Snow and Rafal Bigus paced Kotwica with 13 points apiece. Prokom, playing without Milan Gurovic and Donatas Slanina, easily controlled its game in Walbrzych and won against Gornik without any problems 82-101. Filip Dylewicz scored 29 points and had 10 rebounds, Simonas Serapinas added 24 and Krzysztof Roszyk had 16 for Prokom. In other games, Polonia Warszawa beat AZS Koszalin in overtime 75-73 to secure its place in the top league for next season. Krzysztof Szubarga scored 20 for thehosts, while Jeff Nordgaard and George Reese with 19 points led the losers. Polpharma Starogard was relegated after losing to ASCO Slask 81-95. Rashid Atkins paced Slask with 19. Also Saturday, Atlas Stal beat Anwil Wloclawek 84-76.
