Ademola Okulaja - Brose Baskets Alba Berlin blasted last place Science City Jena to remain atop the German League standings, but second place Bayer Giants Leverkusen remained hot on its tail. Julius Jenkins roared for 27 points as Berlin coasted to a 64-89 road win that improved its record to 21-6. Leverkusen has only one fewer win after it cruised by Walter Tigers Tubingen 92-77 behind Brant Bailey’s 20 points. The Giants can tie Berlin for the best record on Thursday if they beat TBB Trier. Meanwhile defending champion Brose Baskets Bamberg made a move towards the top of the standings by downing Artland Dragons 73-57 in a rematch of last season’s finals. Predrag Suput scored 19 and Ademola Okulaja had 13 points and 9 rebounds to lead Bamberg, which is now 18-8 – one win behind the third-place Dragons. Fifth place Telekom Baskets Bonn defeated New Yorker Phantoms Braunschweig 82-70 thanks to 21 points each from Ronnie Burrell and John Bowler. Eisbaren Bremerhaven pulled away in the fourth quarter to beat the Koln 99ers 98-90, dropping head coach Sasa Obradovic’s side to its fifth loss in its last six games. Nate Funk scored a season-high 30 points and Matt Haryasz added 18 for Bremerhaven. Derrick Allen scored a season-high 37 to push Deutsche Bank Skyliners to a 96-87 overtime win over EnBW Ludwigsburg. In other games, a red-hot Branimir Longin led EWE Baskets Oldenburg to its seventh straight win, 88-68 over BG 74 Gottingen, ratiopharm Ulm topped Trier 64-79 as Dru Joyce scored 17 and dished 5 assists and LTi Giessen 46ers outscored digibu Baskets 82-90 behind 19 points and 7 assists from Michael Umeh.

The Berliners outscored Jena by 8 in each of the first two periods and by 10 in the third to make it an easy night’s work. The visitors had 26 assists on 34 baskets to highlight their team play. Aleksandar Nadjfeji added 18 points and Goran Nikolic had 14, while Bobby Brown and Aleksandar Rasic each dished 6 assists. Jason Miller led Jena with 20 points. Pascal Roller was 4 for 4 from downtown for 17 points and Ilian Evitmov recorded 11 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists for Frankfurt. Heiko Schaffartzik and Ronald Ross scored 22 and 20 points, respectively, to lead Ludwigsburg, Michel Ferreira do Nascimento added 15, Nils Mittmann 12 and Nate Harris had 10 points and 6 assists.
