French League, Game 24: April 4-5, 2008
Nicolas Batum - Le Mans Le Mans became a solid leader atop the French League standings and got a two-game gap ahead everyone else with a 19-6 record by beating Elan Chalon 94-87 in double overtime on Saturday. Nicolas Batum paced the winners with 19 points and nailed a game-tying triple at the end of regulation, 67-67. Antoine Diot send the game to a second overtime, 75-75, but Luka Bogdanovic, Batum and Sam Clancy allowed Le Mans to seal the outcome. Darrel Mitchell had 17 points for Chalon. Chorale Roanne, Asvel Basket and Sluc Nancy now tie for the second spot at 16-8. Roanne edged Asvel Basket 82-78 at home on Friday. Brion Rush led the winners with 23 points. Chevon Troutman led Asvel with 22 points. It all came down to the final sconds, as a jumper by Derrick Byars and free throws by Laurent Cazalon helped Chorale to win the game. Sluc Nancy went down to 16-8 due to a 101-85 road loss against Le Havre. Meanwhile, Pau-Orthez improved to 11-13 by edging Strasbourg 75-68 at home on Saturday behind 19 points from Antonio Graves. In other games, Hyeres-Toulon topped Paris-Levallois 89-83 in overtime, Dijon thrashed Clermont 93-70, Cholet edged Gravelines 77-80 while Vichy downed Orleans 56-69.

Le Mans needed double overtime to beat Elan Chalon 94-87 and stay ahead everyone else with a 19-6 record. Batum paced the winners with 19 points. Bogdanovic added 17, Clancy posted a double-double of 15 points and 12 rebounds while Nebojsa Bogavac had 11 points for Le Mans. Mitchell had 17 points for Chalon, John Ford added 16 and 10 rebounds, Rowan Barrett got 13 points while Mousse Badiane and Philippe Braud each contributed 13 for the guests, that dropped to 10-14. A free throws by Batum gave Le Mans a 47-27 lead late in the first half but Badiane, Barrett and Mitchell brough Chalon back in the game, 51-51, after 30 minutes. Badiane scored for a 64-67 Chalon edge but Batum struck from downtown to force overtime, 67-67. A free throw by Diot took the game to a second extra period, 75-75, while a triple by Barrett gave Chalon its last lead, 81-82. Bogdanovic, Batum and Clancy stepped up to seal the thriller. Chorale Roanne joined a three-way tie for second place at 16-8 by edging Asvel Basket 82-78 at home on Friday. Rush led the winners with 23 points. Pierric Poupet added 13, Marc Salyers had 12 while Pape Badiane grabbed 12 rebounds for Roanne. Troutman led Asvel with 22 points, Uche Nsonwu posted a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds while Laurent Foirest had 13 points for the guests, that led 36-43 at halftime. Rush, Salyers and Badiane rescued Roanne but Troutman and Wilson allowed Asvel to tie the game, 78-78, with a minute to go. Byars sank a critical jumper while Cazalon sealed the win for the foul line.

Pau-Orthez improved to 11-13 by edging Strasbourg 75-68 at home on Saturday. Graves paced the winners with 19 points. Deji Akindele posted a double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds, Jeff Trepagnier added 13 points while Max Stanic had 12 for Pau. Rob Lewin led Strasbourg with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Sacha Giffa had 13 points while Eddie Shannon added 10 for the guests, that also went down to 11-13. Akindele led Pau to a 20-12 lead after 10 minutes and the hosts did not look back from that points. A jumper by Trepagnier made it a 17-point game, 34-17, but Strasbourg got within 39-30 at halftime. It didn't last long, however, as Pau kept full control of the game in the second game to add an important win. Sluc Nancy went down to 16-8 due to a 101-85 road loss against Le Havre. T.J. Thompson paced Le Havre with 22 points. Ricardo Greer led Nancy with 25 points, Victor Samnick added 15, Michael Bauer had 14 while Zab Dowdell got 11 for the guests. A layup by Dowdell brought Nancy within 70-68 after three quarters, but Le Havre broke an otherwise balanced game with a 10-0 run that sealed the outcome, 84-72, with 4 minutes to go.
