Bootsy Thornton - Montepaschi Siena Another weekend, another Italian League win for Montepaschi Siena, that celebrated its return to the Euroleague Final Four with a 76-78 road win against Lottomatica Roma. Bootsy Thornton led the winners with 18 points on 5-for-7 three-pointers. Drake Diener added 16 while Shaun Stonerook and Ksistof Lavrinovic each had 12 for Montepaschi. David Hawkins had 23 points for Roma, that went down to 20-10 and ties with Air Avellino for second place. Armani Jeans Milano improved to 16-14 by beating La Fortezza Bologna 63-75 on the road on Sunday behind 18 points and 8 rebounds from Danilo Gallinari. Upim Bologna went down to 14-16 due to a 89-88 overtime road loss against Tissetanta Cantu despite 24 points from Stefano Mancinelli. Meanwhile, Benetton Treviso moved up to 13-17 by edging Legea Scafati 61-64 on the road on Sunday with 16 points from Reece Gaines. In other games, Angelico Biella beat Snaidero Udine 76-66, Siviglia Wear Teramo edged Scavolini Spar Pesaro 95-93 on a game-winning triple by Brandon Brown, Cimberio Varese topped Premiata Montegranaro 86-84, Air Avellino downed Eldo Napoli 71-74 while Pierrel Capo d'Orlando defeated Solsonica Rieti 88-79 behind 22 points from Romel Beck.

Montepaschi Siena took the big showdown in the Italian League this weekend by topping Lottomatica Roma 76-78 in the Italian capital on Sunday. Montepaschi improved to 28-2 while Lottomatica dropped to 20-10. Thornton led the winners with 18 points on 5-for-7 three-pointers. Diener added 16 while Stonerook and Lavrinovic each had 12 for Montepaschi. Hawkins had 23 points for Roma, Erazem Lorbek added 19 and Roberto Gabini 13. Lorbek, an outstanding Gabini and a triple by Roko Ukic allowed Roma to get a 20-19 edge after 10 minutes. Lavrinovic and Diener stepped up to make Montepaschi regain the lead, 32-41, at halftime. Free throws by Thornton made it a 14-point game, 32-46, right after the break, but an outstanding Hawkins brought Lottomatica back to life, 50-51. Thornton and Stonerook combined for 11 points in a 0-13 run that allowed Montepaschi to break the game open, 55-71, with 4 minutes to go. Roma managed to get within 76-78 with seconds to go but it was too little, too late for the hosts. Benetton Treviso moved up to 13-17 by edging Legea Scafati 61-64 on the road on Sunday. Gaines led the winners with 16 points, Lionel Chalmers added 15 while Haris Mujezinovic got 10 for Benetton, that trailed 32-27 at halftime. Chalmers and Gaines brought Benetton back in the game while a three-pointer by Engin Atsur put the guests ahead, 44-46, after 30 minutes. Soragna followed a layup with a triple for a 55-60 Benetton edge with 2 minuts to go, while free throws by Chalmers and Marco Mordente sealed the outcome down the stretch.

Armani Jeans Milano improved to 16-14 by beating La Fortezza Bologna 63-75 on the road on Sunday. Gallinari paced the winners with 18 points and 8 rebounds. Dusan Vukcevic added 14 while Casey Shaw, Ansu Sesay and Fabio Di Bella each had 10 for Milano. Alan Anderson had 17 points for Virtus while Travis Best added 15. Free throws by Massimo Bulleri and a triple by Donnie McGrath allowed Virtus to tie the game, 21-21, after 10 minutes. An outstanding Best and another three-pointer by McGrath put the hosts ahead, 36-35, at halftime. Gallinari and Best stepped up to make Milano get a 53-59 lead after 30 minutes. A 0-10 run that Travis Watson capped with a layup broke the game open, 53-69, as Virtus did not recover. Upim Bologna went down to 14-16 due to a 89-88 overtime road loss against Tissetanta Cantu. DaShaun Wood and Gerald Fitch led the winners each with 19 points. Mancinelli had 24 points for Fortitudo, Horace Jenkins added 18, Kristaps Janicenoks and Joseph Forte got 12 apiece while Alessandro Cittadin contributed 11 and 9 rebounds for the guests, that trailed 77-4 with 2 minutes to go in regulation. Free throws by Forte, Spencer Nelson and Janicenoks gave Upim a 77-79 edge but Nicolas Mazzarino sent the game to overtime, 79-79. Mancinelli gave Upim a 87-88 edge in the final minute but Denham Brown sealed the outcome with a power basket.
