Italian League, regular season, Game 31: April 12-13, 2008
Romain Sato - Montepaschi Siena Montepaschi Siena continues to rule the Italian League, while the next three teams in the standings distanced themselves from the rest over the weekend. Montepaschi, the defending champ, which already clinched first place in the league and is headed to the Euroleague Final Four, trounced Siviglia Wear Teramo 97-63 to improve to 29-2. Romain Sato scored 27 points in 28 minutes to lead Montepaschi to its 11th straight league win. Lottomatica Roma and Air Avellino both recorded road wins to stay tied for second at 21-10. Roma edged Snaidero Udine 74-77 as Erazem Lorbek scored 17 – including the game-winning triple – while Avellino topped Solsonica Rieti 83-93 behind 24 points and 16 rebounds from Eric Williams. Premiata Montegranaro remained one win out of second after downing Angelico Biella 74-66. Sharrod Ford posted 20 points and 10 rebounds for Montegranaro, which controlled the fourth quarter 25-16 to take the win. Armani Jeans Milano moved within a win of fifth place by beating Tisettanta Cantu 86-74. Travis Watson shined with 20 points and 15 rebounds. Benetton Treviso overcame a slow start to dump Upim Bologna 66-61. La Fortezza Bologna distanced itself from the bottom two with an 80-72 win over Cimberio Varese. Alan Anderson led six La Fortezza scorers in double figures with 17 points. In other action, Michael Hicks scored 26 as Scavolini Spar Pesaro outlasted Pierrel Capo d’Orlando 108-101 and Eldo Napoli bested Legea Scafati 69-59 thanks to Chris Monroe’s 27 points.

Defending champion Montepaschi Siena trounced Siviglia Wear Teramo 97-63 to improve to 29-2. Romain Sato scored 27 points and dished 5 assists to lead Montepaschi to its 11th straight league win. The hosts put the game out or reach early with a 34-14 opening period and never had reasons to worry after that. Ksistof Lavrinovic added 17 points, Drake Diener had 16 in 16 minutes and Ben Eze posted 15 points and 10 boards for Montepaschi. Roger Powell paced Teramo with 17. Lottomatica Roma scored the last 8 points of the game and beat Snaidero Udine 74-77 on Erazem Lorbek's last-second three-pointer. Free throws by Kyle Hill and Michele Antonutti put Udine up 74-69, but Roke-Leni Ukic and Lorbek sparked the game-ending run to lift Roma to victory. Lorbek finished with 17 points, Ukic added 13, David Hawkins 12, Jon Stefansson 11 and Gregor Fucka 10. Antonutti led Udine with 15.

Armani Jeans Milano moved within a win of fifth place by beating Tisettanta Cantu 86-74. Travis Watson shined with 20 points and 15 rebounds. Dusan Vukcevic hit a pair of triples and had 8 points in a 15-1 first-quarter charge as Milano took control for good. Vukcevic finished with 16 points, Ansu Sesay added 13 and Danilo Gallinari 11 for Milano, while Herve Toure, who began the season at Milano, and Gerald Fitch scored 18 each for Cantu. Benetton Treviso overcame a slow start to dump Upim Bologna 66-61. Lionel Chalmers and Marco Mordente scored 5 each in a 12-2 run to start the fourth quarter as Benetton went ahead for good. Mordente finished with 16 points and Chalmers and Matteo Soragna added 12 each. Horace Jankins came off the bench for 17 and Oscar Torres added 11 for Upim. La Fortezza Bologna distanced itself from the bottom two with an 80-72 win over last place Cimberio Varese. La Fortezza scored the first 8 points of the game and never trailed as it earned its 12th win of the season. Alan Anderson led six La Fortezza scorers in double figures with 17 points and 7 assists. Roberto Chiacig and Travis Best added 13 points apiece and Massimo Bulleri, Brett Blizzard and Guilherme Giovannoni score 10 each. Former La Fortezza player Delonte Holland led Varese with 18.
