The Russian League regular season came to an end Wednesday when Unics Kazan beat Spartak Primorje Primorskiy 65-66 to finalize the matchups for the quarterfinal playoffs. Defending champion CSKA Moscow, which trashed Spartak St.Petersburg 72-97 on Tuesday behind 17 points and 12 assists from J.R. Holden, finished the regular season with just one loss and will have home-court advantage throughout the playoffs, starting in the quarterfinals against Primorje. Khimki got 18 points apiece from Maciej Lampe and Nikita Shabalkin to dump Universitet-Ugra Surgut 101-67 in its regular-season finale to place second with a 22-2 record. Khimki will meet Lokomotiv Rostov in the quarters. In the other quarterfinals, Unics meets Ural Great while Triumph Lyubertsy faces Dynamo Moscow. Triumph trampled Enisey Krasnoyarsk 104-74 as Uros Slokar led six Lyubertsy scorers in double figures with 16.
Defending champion CSKA Moscow trashed Spartak St. Petersburg 72-97 on Tuesday to finish the regular season with just one loss and earn home-court advantage throughout the playoffs. J.R. Holden partied on the way to 17 points and 12 assists to lead CSKA, which led 19-28 after 10 minutes and continued to score at will the rest of the way. Trajan Langdon added 15 points, Matjaz Smodis 14, Ramunas Siskauskas 13 and Viktor Khryapa 10. Lewis Sims led St. Petersburg with 17. Second placed Khimki dumped Universitet-Ugra Surgut 101-67 in its regular-season finale. The hosts dominated from the start, led by 13 at the end of the first quarter and by 24 by halftime to end all doubts early. Maciej Lampe and Nikita Shabalkin paced Khimki with 18 points apiece, Vitaly Fridzon added 12 points, Anton Ponkrashov scored 11 and dished 9 assists and Clay Tucker finished with 10 points. Kevin Fletcher posted 18 points and 8 rebounds for Surgut in defeat.
Sergei Chikalkin and Marko Tusek scored 21 and 19 points, respectively, to lead Unics Kazan to a 65-66 road win at Spartak Primorje Primorskiy. Dmitry Sokolov added 15 points and 8 rebounds for Unics. J.R. Bremer had 23 points to lead Primorje. Triumph Lyubertsy trampled Enisey Krasnoyarsk 104-74 to finish the regular season in fourth place. Uros Slokar led six Lyubertsy scorers in double figures with 16 points, Sergey Toporov and Egor Vyaltsev added 12 each and Igor Zamanskiy, Ognjen Askrabic and Fedor Likholitov all scored 11. Zendon Hamilton netted 18 and grabbed 9 boards for Enisey, which finished the season in last place.
