Romanian League Quarterfinals, Game 1: April 17, 2008

The Romanian League playoffs started on Thursday with no surprises, as all four home teams won their respective games to get a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three series. Heavy favourite CSU Asesoft Ploiesti started to defend its Romanian League title with a 88-80 home win against BC Mures. Arvydas Cepulis and De'Angelo Alexander paced the winners each with 21 points. Rashard Griffith added 16, Virgil Carutasu posted a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds while Bojan Obradovic had 10 points for Asesoft. J.J. Cooley had 33 points for Mures. Mihail Paul and Obradovic shined in crunch time to keep Asesoft ahead until the final buzzer. Atlassib Sibiu downed Dinamo - Gealan Bucuresti 81-71 with 20 points and 7 rebounds from Jason Smith. Meanwhile, U Mobitelco Cluj-Napoca rallied from a double-digit fourth-quarter deficit to top Gaz Metan Medias 99-90 in overtime behind 25 points from Bradley Buckman. Tudor Dumitrescu led Gaz Metan with 36 points. Last but not least, Rapid Dromeas Bucuresti downed Elba Timisoara 89-82.
