Montepaschi Siena bounced back from its Italian League loss this week by thrashing Tisettanta Cantu 60-78 on the road to improve to 30-3 in the standings, as all games took place on a very intense Sunday with an interesting race to reach the playoffs. Romain Sato and Bootsy Thornton paced the winners each with 14 points. Benetton Treviso improved to 15-18 by edging Angelico Biella 98-99 in overtime on the road. Reece Gaines won it for Benetton with a free throw in the final seconds. Lottomatica Roma and Air Avellino tie for second place at 22-11. Lottomatica thrashed Scavolini Spar Pesaro 92-75 at home behind 20 points from Gregor Fucka. Armani Jeans Milano improved to 19-14 by downing Air Avellino 72-78 on the road with an outstanding Melvin Booker. Upim Bologna kept its playoff hopes alive at 16-17 by edging Solsonica Rieti 80-79 at home. La Fortezza Bologna went down to 13-20 due to a 91-88 road loss against Legea Scafati. In other games, Siviglia Wear Teramo edged Premiata Montegranaro 88-85, Cimberio Varese upset Pierrel Capo d'Orlando 87-94 while Snaidero Udine downed Eldo Napoli 92-78.

Sato and Thornton paced the winners each with 14 points while Drake Diener added 10 for Montepaschi, that led 31-41 at halftime. Cantu got as close as 43-45 but Thornton allowed Montepaschi to restore a double-digit lead, 50-60, after three quarters. Sato shined in the fourth quarter to seal the outcome. Benetton Treviso improved to 15-18 by edging Angelico Biella 98-99 in overtime on the road. Gaines won it for Benetton with a free throw in the final seconds. Mario Austin led the winners with 23 points. Lionel Chalmers added 21, Marco Mordente had 17, Matteo Soragna 12 and Gaines 10. Benetton trailed 75-69 after 30 minutes but Austin and Soragna led a 0-11 run that put their team ahead, 75-80. Even with that, a triple by Kevinn Pinkney forced overtime, 90-90. A layup by Keith Langford tied it again at 98-98 but Gaines won it for Benetton. Lottomatica Roma now ties for second place at 22-11 by thrashing Scavolini Spar Pesaro 92-75 at home. Fucka led the way for Lottomatica with 20 points. David Hawkins had 16, Ibrahim Jaaber added 15, Roko Ukic got 14, Pietro Aradori 11 and Rodrigo De La Fuente 10 in an easy win for Lottomatica, that led 50-31 at halftime and never looked back.
Armani Jeans Milano improved to 19-14 by downing Air Avellino 72-78 on the road. Booker led the winners with 15 points, Fabio Di Bella added 11 while Danilo Gallinari had 10 for Armani Jeans, that trailed 70-69 with 3 minutes to go. Booker struck from downtown and added 4-for-4 free throws in the final seconds to seal an important win. Upim Bologna improved to 16-17 and kept its playoff options alive by edging Solsonica Rieti 80-79 at home. Joseph Forte led the winners with 17 points. Kristaps Janicenoks added 16 while Dalibor Bagaric had 10 for Fortitudo, that trailed 54-57 after three quarters. Fortitudo stayed in the game while free throws by Oscar Torres gave the hosts a 74-72 edge. Janicenoks hit 6-for-7 foul shots in the final 2 minutes and even when Rieti had the chance to win the game, LeRoy Hurd missed a desperation three-point shot at the buzzer. La Fortezza Bologna went down to 13-20 due to a 91-88 road loss against Legea Scafati. Marcus Hatten paced the winners with 20 points. Travis Best had 18 points for Virtus, Guilherme Giovannoni added 16, Brett Blizard got 15 and Alan Anderson 11. It all came down to the final play of a back-and-forth game but Giovannoni missed from downtown at the buzzer.
