Marc Gasol - Akasvayu Girona - Final Eight Turin 2008 Real Madrid bounced back from its midweek loss in the Spanish League and improved to 26-5 atop the standings by thrashing ViveMenorca 69-92 on the road on Sunday. Felipe Reyes paced the winners with 25 points in 24 minutes. DKV Joventut stayed second at 24-7 by downing Kalise Gran Canaria 94-69 in Badalona also on Saturday behind 27 points from an unstoppable Rudy Fernandez. Meanwhile, AXA FC Barcelona survived a tough test by edging Unicaja 68-67 at home on Saturday. Barcelona moved up to 23-8 while Unicaja went down to 16-15. Ersan Ilyasova paced the winners with 16 points. Tau Ceramica moved up to 21-10 by stopping Grupo Capitol Valladolid 69-92 on the road on Saturday with 20 points from Pete Mickeal. Meanwhile, Pamesa stayed fifth now with a 20-11 record y downing iurbentia Bilbao Basket 85-73 at home on Sunday behind 21 points from Rubem Douglas, that also led a late 14-0 run. Meanwhile, Akasvayu Girona rallied from a 19-point deficit to edge Grupo Begar Leon 82-81 on a game-winning basket by Marc Gasol. He also led the winners with 25 points and 11 rebounds. Leon will play in the Spanish second division next season. In other games, Cajasol edged CB Granada 83-78, Ricoh Manresa thrashed Polaris World CB Murcia 81-63 while Alta Gestion Fuenlabrada downed MMT Estudiantes 68-72.

Real Madrid improved to 26-5 and got closer to become the Spanish League regular season champion by thrashing ViveMenorca 69-92 on the road on Sunday. Reyes paced the winners with 25 points in 24 minutes. Louis Bullock added 19 while Alex Mumbru and Axel Hervelle each had 12 for Madrid, that outrebounded their opponents by 19-41. Madrid already led 26-45 at halftime and did not find much trouble to add an easy road win. DKV Joventut stayed second at 24-7 by downing Kalise Gran Canaria 94-69 in Badalona also on Saturday. Fernandez paced the winners with 27 points. Demond Mallet added 16, Jerome Moiso posted a double-double of 14 points and 12 rebounds while Pau Ribas got 13 points for Joventut. Carl English had 19 points for Gran Canaria, Sitapha Savane added 11 and Nick Caner-Medley 10. Gran Canaria trailed 68-56 after 30 minutes but Mallet, Fernandez and Ribas fueled a 18-6 run that sealed the outcome. Pamesa Valencia is now fifth at 20-11 by downing iurbentia Bilbao Basket 85-73 at home on Sunday. Ruben Douglas led the winners with 21 points. Fred House added 14, Albert Oliver had 12, Shammond Williams 11 and Dejan Milojevic 10 for Pamesa, that trailed 49-50 late in the third quarter. Douglas led a 14-0 run that put Pamesa ahead for good.

AXA FC Barcelona survived a tough test by edging Unicaja 68-67 at home on Saturday. Barcelona moved up to 23-8 while Unicaja went down to 16-15. Ilyasova paced the winners with 16 points while Pepe Sanchez had 11 against his former team. Boniface Ndong and Marcus Haislip each had 15 points for Unicaja while Daniel Santiago added 10 for the guests, that led 10-24 midway through the second quarter. Ilyasova stepped up fro Barcelona, but only brought the hosts within 29-37 at halftime. A 13-3 run that Basile capped with a huge triple tied the game, 50-50, after 30 minutes. It all came down to the final 2 seconds, as Roger Grimau committed a turnover at 68-67. Unlike in both teams' Top 16 game in Malaga, Carlos Cabezas did not manage to get an open look this time and his final shot was blocked by Denis Marconato. Akasvayu Girona improved to 18-13 by edging Grupo Begar Leon 82-81 on a game-winning basket by Gasol. He also led the winners with 25 points and 11 rebounds. Arriel McDonald added 15 points, Erik Daniels had 14, Branko Cvetkovic got 12 while Victor Sada dished 11 assists for Akasvayu, that trailed 43-58 early in the third quarter. A 23-4 run that McDonald capped with a triple completed the hosts' comeback, 66-62, but Leon was not done. Javier Bulfoni scored for a 80-81 Leon lead with 10 seconds to go, but Gasol did not disappoint in the other end. Tau Ceramica moved up to 21-10 by stopping Grupo Capitol Valladolid 69-92 on the road on Saturday. Mickeal led the winners with 20 points. Mirza Teletovic added 18, Zoran Planinic had 12, Sergi Vidal and Igor Rakocevic each got 11 while Tiago Splitter contributed 10 in an easy win for Tau, that led 29-46 at halftime and never looked back.
