Russian League playoffs quarterfinals, Game 1: April 21-22

David Andersen scored 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead CSKA Moscow to a 72-66 win over Spartak Primorje in the opening game of the Russian League playoffs. Final-Four bound CSKA now has a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three quarterfinal series. The first games of the remaining three series are set for Tuesday evening. CSKA struggled in the early going and trailed 6-19 midway through the first quarter, however the hosts closed the gap to 21-11 after 10 minutes. Spartak played with great confidence and held a 28-35 advantage by halftime. CSKA began its comeback in the third quarter with Ramunas Siskauskas and Zakhar Pashutin hitting clutch shots and then J.R. Holden cutting the gap to 49-50 after three-periods. Andersen finally put the defending champs ahead early in the fourth quarter and CSKA then marched to a 10-point lead before Spartak tried to rally late. Matjaz Smodis added 14 points and 7 rebounds, while Theodoros Papaloukas finished with 6 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners. J.R. Bremer drilled 5 triples and posted 18 points and 9 assists to pace Spartak in the near-upset.
