The home teams all won their openers in the best-of-three Latvian League quarterfinals. Defending champion ASK Riga coasted to a 105-67 win over Liepaja Lauvas. Sandis Valters led the way for ASK with 18 points, Dairis Bertans, Curtis Millage and Arnis Vecvagars added 13 each and Smiljan Pavic had 12 for the winners, who outscored Liepaja by at least 8 points in each period and benefited from 20 Liepaja turnovers. Kaspars Cipruss posted 18 points and 11 rebounds for Liepaja in defeat. Ventspils bested Ventspils augstskola 96-81 thanks to a strong second half. The hosts led by just 3 at halftime and 5 after 30 minutes, but dominated the fourth quarter 24-14 to secure the win. Gerry McNamara had 27 points and 6 assists for Ventspils, Pavels Veselovs posted 18 points and 9 rebounds, Aigars Vitols netted 17, Uvis Helmanis 13 and Justin Love 10. Kristaps Kanbergs scored 18 for VA. Meanwhile, Barons/LMT Riga opened up a double-digit lead in the first period and cruised to an 89-70 win over BK Zemgale. Joao Paulo Batista led the Barons with 19. And VEF Riga bested Valmiera 96-69 thanks to Maris Gulbis, who had 25 points and 8 boards in 20 minutes.
