FC Porto Ferpinta became the first team to advance to the Portuguese League finals by sweeping its best-of-five semifinal series against Vagos Lusavouga Dewalt. Porto topped Vagos 79-86 in Game 3 on Friday to reach the title series. Nuno Marcal led the winners with 26 points. Frederick Gentry added 24, Julian Terrell posted a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds while Joao Figueiredo barely missed a triple double with 10 points, 7 rebounds and 9 assists for Porto. Pedro Nuno had 24 points for Vagos while Ricardo Hill added 20 for the hosts, whose last lead came at 25-24. A late rally brought the hosts within 79-84 but it was too little, too late for Vagos. Meanwhile, Casino Figueira Ginasio survived a make-or-break test by edging Ovarense Aerosoles 80-76 in overtime on Thursday. Despite its loss, Ovarense leads the series 2-1. Nate Daniels paced the winners with 27 points. Gregory Stempin led Ovarense with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Graham Brown also posted a double-double with 16 points and 16 rebounds while John Waller had 15 points for the guests. A free throw by Joao Abreu helped Ovarense to force overtime, 68-68. An outstanding Daniels and free throws by Mario Goncalves helped Ginasio to win the game.
