Efes Pilsen routed Pinar Karsiyaka 78-56 at the Abdi Ipekci Arena to tie their quarterfinal series at 1-1, while defending champion Fenerbahce Ulker, Turk Telekom and Besiktas ColaTurka all took 2-0 series leads with wins. Efes, which lost a stunner in Game 1, got 15 points apiece from Dewarick Spencer and Kerem Gonlum in a big win. Fenerbahce edged Antalya Buyuksehir Belediyesi 81-76 behind James White’s 15 points and a 14-point, 9-rebound and 2-block performance from Omer Asik. Tutku Acik led Turk Telekom with 17 points and 8 assists in a 78-71 Game 2 win over Galatasaray Cafe Crown, while Besiktas Cola Turka, which started the series with 1-0 lead for sweeping its regular series season against Banvit of Bandirma, won its playoff opener 85-81 over Banvit to lead the series 2-0 as Kaya Peker shined with 21 points and 9 rebounds.
Efes Pilsen trumped injury-plagued Pinar Karsiyaka 78-56 at the Abdi Ipekci Arena to tie their quarterfinal series at 1-1. Both sides had many missed attempts in the first quarter, which Karsiyaka managed to lead 13-14. The thunderous explosion for Efes came in the second quarter as the home side rested on Andre Hutson, Kerem Gonlum and Dewarick Spencer to go 25-11 and build a 38-25 lead by halftime. Karsiyaka, playing without injured guard Baris Ermis and the ill Valentin Pastal, was un able to respond in the third period and struggled to score as Efes move into the last period ahead 58-40 and Efes coasted in the final minutes to an easy win. Spencer and Gonlum scored 15 points each to lead Efes and Hutson added 13. Quinton Hosley had 16 points plus 12 rebounds and Sean Marshall scored 12 for Karsiyaka.
Fenerbahce Ulker bested Antalya Buyuksehir Belediyesi 81-76 to take a 2-0 series lead. Omer Onan and James White paced Fener to a slim 16-15 lead in the first quarter and then Tarence Kinsey and Mirsad Turkcan took charge in the second quarter for a 37-30 halftime advantage. Omer Asik and Emir Preldzic created most of the points in the third quarter as Fener eased the game by going into the last quarter ahead 60-49. Antalya tried hard with Dominique Marsh and Can Akin in the last period, but it was not enough to come back as the home team won the game 81-76. White scored 15, Asik had 14 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 blocks, Onan had 13 points, Turkcan 12 and Kinsey added 11 for Fener. Marsh scored 17 points plus 11 boards. Akin had 16 and Eugene Douthit added 14 for Antalya.
Turk Telekom increased its lead to 2-0 against Galatasaray Cafe Crown by beating the Istanbul side 78-71 in the second game in Ankara. Tutku Acik led his team with 17 points and 8 assists, Erwin Dudley scored 14 and Haluk Yildirim and Chris Williams added 11 apiece for Telekom. Galatasaray’s Charles Gaines scored 21 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in defeat. Chris Owens added 15 points and Huseyin Besok 10 for Galatasaray. Besiktas Cola Turka struggled, but beat Banvit of Bandirma 85-81 to lead the series 2-0 as Kaya Peker shined with 21 points and 9 rebounds. Like Peker, Erkan Veyseloglu also came off the bench to score 13 points, Preston Shumpert had 12 and Predrag Drobnjak added 11. Steven Crispin scored 25 and Umut Sonkol had 15 points and 11 rebounds for Banvit.
