Russian League Semifinals, Game 1: May 7-9, 2008
Matjaz Smodis - CSKA Moscow CSKA Moscow and Khimki got closer to reach the Russian League finals with respective home wins in their best-of-five semifinal playoff series. CSKA, that won the Euroleague title on Sunday, kept its momentum going by topping Dynamo Moscow 74-59 in the Russian capital on Friday. Matjaz Smodis led the winners with 20 points on 8-for-11 two-pointers and 1-for-1 triples. Ramunas Siskauskas added 18 on 4-for-4 three-pointers while David Andersen had 11 for CSKA. Antonis Fotsis, Henry Domercant, Robertas Javtokas and Travis Hansen each had 10 points for Dynamo. Fotsis added 11 rebounds for a double-double. CSKA rolled in the first half, leading 22-10 after 10 minutes and boosting its margin up to 45-25 at halftime. Dynamo tried to get back in the game in the second half, but CSKA cruised to a big home win. Meanwhile, Khimki thrashed Ural Great 101-78 in Game 1 on Wednesday. Kelly McCarty and Maciej Lampe paced the winners each with 22 points while Mike Wilkinson added 13 for Khimki, that led 52-40 at halftime and rolled after the break to seal the outcome long before the final buzzer. Roman Khamitov led Ural with 17 points.
