Porto Ferpinta stroke first in the best-of-seven Portuguese League finals by edging Ovarense Aerosoles 59-61 on the road in Game 1 on Friday night. As such, Porto stole the home court advantage but Ovarense also hosts Game 2 on Sunday. Nuno Marcal led the winners with 15 points. Toree Morris posted a double-double of 14 points and 12 rebounds while Julian Terrell had 12 points for Porto. Miguel Miranda had 11 points for Ovarense while John Waller added 10. Porto opened the game with a 2-11 run that Cunha capped with a layup but Nuno Manarte and Graham Brown allowed Ovarense to get within 12-15 after 10 minutes. Nuno Cortez tied the game at 16-16, but Morris and Marcal had 4 points eacdh in a 1-10 run that helped Porto to keep a 24-27 at halftime. Marcal kept pacing Porto after the break while Terrell gave his team a 29-36 edge. Miranda and Joao Abreu fueled the hosts' comeback, as Ovarense got a 48-43 edge after 30 minutes. The game turned into a thriller when Greg Stempin tied the game with a free throw, 57-57. Marcal nailed the go-ahead three-pointer and Ovarense missed several shots in the final 2 minutes. An offensive foul by Manarte sealed the outcome with 3 seconds to go.
